Distraction free pomodoro timer, also quite beautiful

January 24, 2022 Someone just bought me a coffee.

I guess that might be considered as the first paying customer. I've made justpomodoro.com completely free and free from distractions. But at the end of your pomodoro cycle, I've added a tiny bit to the footer, suggesting you can buy me a coffee if you want. It takes you to my monzo.me page with £ 2.6 prefilled. And someone just did it! Thanks 🙏

January 8, 2022 Made an MVP

So, the physical kitchen timer has arrived. I've set up a little recording studio and took an 1 hour long time lapse on 10 seconds frequency. Then ran the video through a filter in VLC that let me extract the frames in png format. And finally ran all the the images through designify.com that allows you to remove backgrounds in bulk.

Step 2 was to built it together! I decided to learn SvelteJS as everyone in my network is talking very positive about it. Their tutorials were super easy and as a long time React aficionado I have to admit it was really nice! And easy. It took me 2-3 short sessions to make it work.

December 21, 2021 Found out how to do it

The idea I had was to create a simple timer that would look like the kitchen timers and would add time on scroll. And trigger on click. Super simple and clean. Initially I thought I'm gonna make it using 3Djs with some 3D model but I do not know how to model so I was looking for different solution. I stumbled upon this article https://css-tricks.com/lets-make-one-of-those-fancy-scrolling-animations-used-on-apple-product-pages/ explaining how Apple does their fancy scrolling animations. That was it!

November 15, 2021 Came up with the idea

In the hot-desking area I work from I bumped into bunch of friends, who were all on pomodoro cycle, trying to push through a focused session. I use pomodoro myself when I fell too deep into social media and I was always annoyed on all the pomodoro apps out there. I used to be using Forest which is great, but it has so much unnecessary stuff, tracking of how many cycles I've done and so on. I had the idea of making a simple yet very functional pomodoro app ages ago and I told myself I'm gonna make it as a christmas gift for my co-work bunch.
