Kãla
Listen. Reflect. Live
I built Kãla — a self-reflection app — with zero coding background.
For 21 years I searched for an answer to a question most people ask and never resolve — Who am I?
For a decade as a news editor, I watched the world fall apart in real time. Everyone around me was struggling. Not because they were weak. Because something had been quietly done to us.
We were taught to react instead of think. To scroll instead of sit. To perform instead of feel.
Conflicts escalating in real time — narrated, reacted to, scrolled past. History being made and consumed simultaneously — like content.
And in the middle of all of it — we are expected to process civilisational weight between notifications.
The tools got smarter. We got more reactive. Then we made tools that build faster, but not one is helping you think deeper.
So I paused my dream of writing a book.
And built a tool instead. In the language people actually speak. For the question nobody has properly answered yet.

For 10 years I watched the world fall apart in real time as a news editor. Before that, I was a 9 year old who had just lost her father and started journaling because she had no other language for what she was going through.
21 years of that observation became a framework — 14 states of human consciousness.
Clarity. Awareness. Creativity. Joy. Wisdom. Energy. Experience. Desire. Ambition. Power. Illusion. Fear. Conflict. Instinct.
Not from a lab. From lived experience. Copyright registered. Published as a preprint on Zenodo with a permanent DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19429298
Then I built an app around it. Kãla.
The stack: Next.js, Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare R2, Capacitor for Android, Razorpay for payments. Deployed on Vercel Pro.
What I used to build it: VS Code. GitHub. Large language models for code and architecture. Every decision was mine — the framework, the philosophy, the product logic, the legal grounding. The AI helped me execute what I could already see.
What I had: A journalism career. A clear vision. A MacBook — the first thing I ever bought for myself with my savings. No coding background. No financial backing. No team.
What I built:
Private journal that maps your consciousness state as you write
14 realm pages — one for each state
Living Earth Pulse updated every hour — first real-time collective map of human consciousness states
Kãla Meter — 3D visualisation of inner state
The Wall — public reflections, no algorithm
Kãla Chat — AI companion, nothing stored
Push notifications — morning, evening, custom reminders
Premium weekly, monthly, yearly reports
PWA installable from browser
Razorpay payments wired
Where it stands: 8 users. $0 revenue. Live in 177 countries.
What I learned:
LLMs don't replace thinking. They amplify it. Every decision in Kãla is mine. The AI helped me execute what I could already see.
The hardest part wasn't the code. It was staying honest about what the app should be — and what it should never become.
No ads. No manipulation. No harvesting attention. Just a mirror. For anyone who needs one.
In November 2023, WHO declared loneliness a global health threat. 871,000 deaths a year from loneliness. And we still don't have a map ordinary people can use to understand where they are inside themselves.
Kãla is that map.
If you are building something meaningful — keep going.
Even when no one is looking.
And especially when everything else feels louder.
