January 11, 2020 Launching on IH

New year, new challenges.

This year, I want to explore how much I can learn building this publicly here, and see if I can share some of what I've learned in the process as well.

My goals are:

1 - Get some feedback on the product, and how I might make it better
2 - Add features that people want
3 - Improve readership and traffic to KameCrypto

October 17, 2019 Launch to a group of friends

I didn't share the completion of kamecrypto with a lot of people, but I shared it with some friends who were kind enough to share their feedback.
I use Digital Ocean to host because they have some of the best tutorials available for using their services.
I didn't wait for things to be perfect to launch. I have 7 news sources (instead of the 29 I aspired to), but the product and concept definitely works.

August 15, 2019 Started Building MVP

I started building kamecrypto around mid August. For the longest time, I was trying to come up with the perfect stack, but after reading an article on how Expensify runs on a modified version of SQLite, I decided to stop seeking perfection, and just go with what I knew. So I chose Python, Flask and SQLite as I have experience with each of those.

I spent a lot time making mistakes, and Googling, but I learned a lot in the process.

June 1, 2019 Came up with an idea that I felt I could build

I keep a running list of ideas in Evernote, but most of them are beyond my skill set. Most ideas I have are a mix of something that currently exists, but in another field. One of the ideas was a newsletter about hardware companies and trying to explain the tech behind them. Another one was to build a search engine for electronics parts documentation. And then I thought about doing hacker news for the aviation industry, then I thought about techmeme for aviation industry, and the I thought about techmeme for cryptocurrencies.

The name was originally imacrypto (ima stands for now in japanese). Then when I was about to buy the domain, I realize that people would pronounce it " I'm a crypto" if they said it 3 times fast. So I went for kamecrypto in ode to Kame House from Dragon Ball Z.
