A few months ago, I got frustrated with the current state of language learning apps. Almost everything on the App Store has turned into an aggressive casino of streaks, hearts, subscription paywalls, and video ads that constantly interrupt your focus.

I wanted to learn Japanese Kana (Hiragana and Katakana) with pure focus, so I decided to build KanaLearn around a "calm software" philosophy.

### 🛠️ The core product decisions:

1. No Accounts, No Tracking, 100% Offline: Everything runs on-device. There is no cloud backend, no third-party telemetry, and no sign-up wall.

2. Vector Stroke Order from Scratch: Instead of static images or generic fonts, I built animated vector guides showing the exact direction, stroke order, and starting points.

3. Kanji Origins (Man'yōgana): Every character is paired with its original Kanji ancestor, turning abstract shapes into memorable visual stories.

4. Targeted Confusion Drills: Dedicated sets for character pairs that learners notoriously mix up (like さ vs. ち, or シ vs. ツ).
