May 28, 2026 Kango - Learn Chinese

Hello Indiehackers!

I built Kango to solve my own problems - I wanted a way to practice chinese in various immersive situations. I'm conversationally fluent, but from talking about AI to requesting help from air-con service, I found myself short of words needed for that situation. So I built Kango - app to practice roleplays backed by a structured curriculum.

Would love your feedback so check out our site at kangospeak.com and join us Discord if you have any feedback!

The strongest part here is the “real situations” angle. Most language apps teach vocabulary in isolation, but the painful moments are specific: explaining a work topic, calling a service person, asking for help, or handling a conversation where normal textbook Chinese does not prepare you.

I’d make that the center of the product: practice Chinese for the situations you actually get stuck in.

One thing I’d pressure-test is the brand frame. Kango is short and friendly, but it does not immediately carry the immersive roleplay/curriculum side of the product. If this becomes more than a small language app, the name may need to feel more like a trusted learning companion than a casual practice tool.

Lyriso .com could fit that softer learning-support direction better. It feels more human and guided, which matches a product helping people build confidence in real conversations.

The product idea is useful. I’d just make sure the name and positioning make it feel like structured confidence-building, not just another language practice app.

About

I wanted an immersive simulation to practice chinese. I'm already conversationally fluent, but still run into situations with native chinese speakers where I don't know the words.
