Kept

Keep your learned skills from going cold.

July 9, 2026 I built a tiny app for the skills we don’t want to lose.

I realized I have a small graveyard of almost-skills: languages I studied, coding concepts I once understood, music I used to play, exercises I could do — things I worked hard to learn but stopped touching.

Sometimes it’s because I got busy. Sometimes it’s because school or work moved on. Sometimes it’s because AI, tools, or convenience started doing parts of the work for me. Either way, the skill doesn’t disappear all at once. It just quietly goes cold.

Most learning tools focus on starting something new. Kept is for the stage after that — when you already learned something and want to keep it usable.

The app is intentionally tiny right now:

  • add a skill

  • mark when you last practiced it

  • see a rough “skill health”

  • do a short maintenance rep before it goes cold

I’m trying to figure out whether this is a real pain or just my own fear of forgetting things I worked hard to learn.

Would love blunt feedback: https://keptskills.app

I like that you're treating learning and retention as different problems.

Most products optimize for acquiring knowledge. You're optimizing for preserving capability. If users start thinking of Kept as a way to protect the time they've already invested, that's a much stronger story than another learning app.

I’d especially love feedback on two things:

    1. Does “skill health” feel useful or gimmicky?

    2. What’s one skill you personally wouldn’t want to lose?

I’m still early, so blunt feedback is genuinely helpful.

About

Kept exists because skills don’t disappear all at once — they quietly go cold when life gets busy. It helps people maintain skills they already learned with simple tracking and tiny practice reps.
