Keyhero
Learn shortcuts for all your tools
So here’s the update with Keyhero: I launched pricing a week ago, launched payments a few days ago, and already someone I’ve never met before has paid for Keyhero.
To be real with you: I’ve been working in startups since I was 23. I’m now 36. It’s not a stretch to say that, while this product is barely a month, it was a fast turnaround time to get someone paying me.
But 13 years. 13 years. That’s just something to really take in. You hear about this in the startup world a lot: “overnight successes usually aren’t overnight.” And I’ve read very few things written by people who felt like they were on the precipice of that changing.
The biggest difference is that I have avoided asking customers to pay me, for fear of rejection. I heard on Software Social recently that people with ADHD have a kind of rejection avoidance bias. Lo, I have ADHD. Lo, I hate rejection.
But something has changed. I’m still afraid. I’m terrified, in fact. But I want to finally just fucking make something useful and the only way to make it useful is by putting it in peoples’ hands.
That’s where I’m at right now. Somewhere between grief and hope and fear and pride. It’s nebulous, but $49 paid to me on the internet is not nebulous. That’s real money. A real person paid me money. So now I have the chance to do everything in my power to make Keyhero the hero they deserve and not just the hero they got.
I know it’s a little on the nose to have marketing talk about my thing when I’m also having a profound life moment. But it’s because I feel genuinely on the cusp of being able to give other people some of their time back.
I mean 3.3% a year productivity gain from learning keyboard shortcuts is not nothing. It’s 8 days a year. Minimum, since no ones tested in a context of spaced repetition en masse. That’s a lot of people getting a lot of their time back.
It might all add up to 13 years of my life emotionally for me, and that’s pretty effing awesome.
P.S. If it really wasn’t clear, I’d love to give you some of your time back: https://keyhero.io
I just launched the pricing page for Keyhero at https://keyhero.io/pricing
The idea is to try and charge people who have signed up to the waitlist for their access to Keyhero.
My initial guess for pricing is something like this (discounted for our first 1,000 users):
- Monthly: $5/mo
- Yearly: $35/year
- Lifetime: $49 gets you access for life
Give me your thoughts! I'm curious what you think.

I have wanted to learn more keyboard shortcuts for years but found it hard to remember them. I love the way Duolingo teaches me languages and wanted something like it: fast, fun, and easy to learn.

Congrats - what an achievement! 🥳
Congrats on the milestone! That's huge! Cool product!
🎉 congratulations! I'm 37 and in a similar situation, and KeyHero is cool!
Thanks, Josh! We Joshes gotta stick together. And my first customer was named Josh. This is crazy, but it sounds like fate: do you want to be the second customer? I will absolutely make you a more efficient keyboard shortcutter or no hesitation refund.
And please tell me more about your story! I’d really love to hear the similarities.
I can really relate to your story! I am 33 and I am in a similar situation. Build lots of small projects but no big success yet. I am now starting to take things more seriously and trying to build something profitable. Keep going!
Thanks so much for the encouraging words! Are you using any apps regularly to get there? I’d love to help make you more productive in them. Any extra time you can steal back for yourself is worth the investment now.
Please ship something sooner than later to paying customers. I wish I would’ve built a landing page first in retrospect. But I will say, I love that I’m using it now myself. I’m up to over 110 shortcuts now in just a couple weeks’ time. Even built a page today to show off my stats: https://keyhero.io/u/joshsmith. So not to say that it’s not nice to have a working, helpful thing to show people, too.
Nice. Good to hear. It's never too late
