April 13, 2026 I built a one-time-purchase inventory and production management tool for small makers and manufacturers

Two things kept bothering me.

The first was the pricing model in the category. The tools that do what Kitted does - stock management with bill-of-materials support, so you can actually check whether you have enough to fulfil an order before you commit to it - are almost all subscription SaaS at £20-50/month or more. For a jeweller or a small food producer whose software needs haven't changed in three years, that's a fee that compounds indefinitely for no additional value. It felt like the wrong deal.

The second was data. These businesses are storing their formulations, their supplier pricing, their production history, their full operational picture with cloud services they've never thought twice about. I don't think that's necessarily catastrophic, but I don't think most of them would choose it if they'd considered the alternative.

Kitted is my answer to both. It's a proper desktop production management tool - stock management, recipes and bills of materials, production orders, purchase orders, lot tracking, reports - sold as a one-time purchase at £199. Perpetual licence. Everything lives in a SQLite file on your own machine.

The target customer is a small manufacturer or maker who has outgrown spreadsheets but doesn't want to commit to a subscription product that will cost them £500+ per year indefinitely. I'm not trying to compete with Katana at the top end of the market. I'm trying to be the honest, capable, reasonably priced alternative for the businesses those tools aren't really built for.

About

Every capable tool in this category charges a monthly subscription, indefinitely. I wanted to build something properly useful for small makers and manufacturers - and sell it honestly, once.
