I had this big idea for the website and all these cool features but I couldn't make it happen. I finally understood what MVP meant. It was taking too long. I stripped it down, and left only pricing option and told all my friends that I was washing cars for 1 Rand, that's $0,064
Yeah...I know - but my intention was really to test the payment integration and user flow. I was so scared that something would go wrong so I ran that promotion just to ease my mind and prove that it can run smooth. 18 bookings, I couldn't handle it - I made so many mistakes. 13 other bookings were made but they didn't finish the whole process because the default payment option was "pay with bank" which means when they tried to make a booking it took them to their online banking logins. No one wants to login into their bank account to pay...too much friction.
Great lessons learned. As we speak I just sent out an email newsletter to the "beta" testers and thanked them, hoping to get some bookings.
Haven't had a single booking after the beta...Building was fun but now I'm fighting a different monster - sales and marketing and content. I have major respect for everyone running a profitable business, its not easy

I saw a post by an indian dude on linked in about a mobile water-less car wash. I reached out to him cause the idea sounded so good. I hadn't heard of anything like that. And the startups costs were so little: the waterless cleaning solution and a website!
I tried to convince him to send me a sample so I could test it down here...but COVID.
Finally found a supplier in Joburg and started something building something simple on carrd
