KnowledgePicker

Community-driven catalog of learning resources

March 8, 2021 Personalized study profiles

We released first version of KnowledgePicker few months ago but it was pretty empty and users wanted to search for resources, not register them.

So we added a "single-player" feature in this release to overcome the chicken-and-egg problem (see our blog). Basically you can register everything you read/watch online/offline and create your own "study profile". We think it's great not only for tracking what you studied (and easily finding it later) but also for sharing with other people (and putting it on your CV?) as this is better record of what you really know than for example your university diploma.

You can also find experts on some topic and learn the same way they did by following their public profile!

It's all powered by a catalog of resources anyone can contribute to. Network of relations is there to help you find related links. Ratings and reviews should reveal the best resources for a given topic. Example of a topic and its network: CRDT.

September 21, 2020 KnowledgePicker has just launched!

KnowledgePicker is a community-driven catalog of knowledge. Imagine a TripAdvisor-style site for resources or GoodReads centered around knowledge and without the restriction of books. That is KnowledgePicker.

Picking films, recipes or travel spots, we all are guided by recommendations from others. But whenever one wants to learn something, there is no definitive place to go to for advice and recommendations. These tips are scattered all over the web disorganized and uncurated.

KnowledgePicker is a platform for everyone to:

  • add / edit resources, topics, authors
  • comment / rate resources
  • bookmark to create personal lists
  • follow others to get notified of their activity

June 30, 2020 Beta testing

After almost a year we have arrived at a point where the site was in stable state with all the necessary functionality implemented. To validate the idea and gather feedback we let friends and family behind our site's gate to test it, try all the possibilities it offers and provide feedback.

July 18, 2019 First idea

We got the idea for KnowledgePicker when after arriving at the zoo, we decided to visit a nearby restaurant instead. There, with a beer in hand we threw random ideas at each other. One of them was a complaint that whenever one wants to learn something there is no definitive place to go to for advice and recommendations. These tips are scattered all over the web disorganized and uncurated. And that there should totally be a TripAdvisor for this. The idea felt so great that we immediately checked that there really isn’t anything similar and dove into coding.
