June 18, 2026 Turning nutrition goals into actual meals — looking for feedback

Most apps tell you what's in a meal. Laeta works backwards: you set the targets — 130g protein, high iron, ~600 kcal — and it builds the dish + shopping list for you.
No AI guessing: it picks from real, hand-verified recipes, so the numbers you see are the numbers you eat. Same targets → same trustworthy result, instantly.

The strongest wedge here might be trust, not personalization. If the promise is “same targets, same result,” I’d show a small before/after loop: target entered, recipe chosen, number verified, shopping list generated. For nutrition tools, the moment users believe the numbers are stable is probably the moment they start trusting the planning layer.

Out of curiosity, who usually arrives first?

Someone trying to hit a nutrition target.

Or someone frustrated that existing meal-planning tools keep missing the target.

Feels similar, but I'd expect them to behave very differently.

The frustrated switcher is the better wedge. They already track macros, already feel the pain that those tools tell them what they ate but never what to cook to hit the target. Honestly though, I'm pre-traction, so this is hypothesis, not data. Where have you seen "frustrated switchers" actually go looking for a better tool, search, niche communities, word of mouth? That's the part I'm still figuring out.

        Interesting distinction.

I've seen founders get surprisingly different answers to that question depending on what they believe they're actually competing against.

Probably more than I'd try to unpack properly in a thread though.

Happy to continue by email if useful.

Turning nutrition goals into actual meals — would love your eyes on it
I'm building Laeta: you enter the nutrients you want (e.g. 130g protein, high iron, ~600 kcal) and it builds the actual meal + shopping list, from hand-verified recipes (no AI making up values).

I'd really value feedback from nutritionists, PTs and anyone who plans meals seriously — specifically:

  1. Would you ever start from nutrients instead of recipes? Or is that backwards for how you/your clients think?

  2. What would make this genuinely useful in your work vs. a nice toy?

  3. What's the one thing that would make you not trust it?
