February 24, 2022 $97k sales in Jan

So close to 6 figures, 1 year after launch. The platform is growing month after month. 58% of sales came from students who purchased last year, showing how good our tutors are. We're starting to see the impact of our partner program and podcasts. We also built a filter that allows users to instantly see the tutors who are available when they are. This should improve the search process and increase the conversion rate.

October 1, 2021 $57k/month in our 8th month since launch

We're growing steadily by focusing on high teaching standards, and building out new channels. YouTube ads gave us a significant boost since July, and we're signing up some content creators with big followings to our affiliate scheme. We also launched 3 podcasts in the summer and they're growing steadily. SEO hasn't kicked it in yet but we believe we'll start to see results next year with some further work this autumn. Launching more languages this month (Japanese, Portuguese and Romanian). Our biggest challenge is time - I run everything and Don builds whilst also having a job and some crazy kids 👶

Did you block access from the US or your website is down?

I am getting an "access denied" message from Cloudflare

Also, is the $57k/month your own cut after paying tutors or the total GMV?

lastly, how's Languatalk different from Lingoci?

Hey there, we had to block parts of Africa and the Middle East due to people booking free trial sessions then not turning up or not checking prices before. We hate it when tutors' times is not respected. Where are you based? 57k is all transactions, not our cut, sadly! And LanguaTalk has a much nicer design as we designed and built it from scratch, whilst Lingoci uses third party software. It's easier to assess tutors, you can see reviews and they set their own pricing. Those are some of the main differences. It's also more scalable.

February 26, 2021 $10k in our first month

In our first month, we've gained 45 paying students, with $10,048 of transactions. We're happy with the start we've made. Students and tutors seem satisfied with the site; very few issues have been reported. New features and conversion tests are in progress!

Hey guys! Any new updates? It's a little bit rare to find education products here. I'm rooting for you guys!

Thanks! Yeah we've just been so busy that we forgot to post any updates for a few months. I got the feeling few people read the updates anyway.

Currently we're at approx. $27k/m. Don is busy building new features like tutor filters, recurring bookings etc. whilst I'm mainly testing several channels for growing our audience and traffic. We recently launched a podcast for learning Spanish, for example: https://languatalk.com/blog/podcast/

February 1, 2021 Got our first paying user!

A sweet moment. We've put so much work in to build a great site, so to see a sale come in only a few days after launch felt good. It gave us confidence that we're on the right track. Now we need to keep improving the site, onboard more tutors and run some experiments to boost our conversion rate.

January 30, 2021 Launched

After 6 months of designing and building our new language tutoring marketplace, we finally launched! We launched quietly because we want to make sure that everything is working smoothly before announcing it to the world. So far, so good! We'll now focus on advertising and making some important improvements to the platform.
