January 12, 2019 Analytics review

Today I checked back in on my landing page stats - 3 email subscribers, and 28 clicks on the various pre-order buttons. There's two clear winners there (Blog and Dashboard), and it's already enabled me to remove one of the options (Gallery).

My next step will be to reach out to the list subscribers and find out what sort of problems they're trying to solve. Hopefully that will help me refine the offering further.

I'm also considering testing another price point, and sending the link out again with more promotional juice, to see if the refined ideas still hold.

January 3, 2019 Idea validation

This project is ultimately an experiment for me - a new way of doing things. My natural impulse is to go straight for building things, so this time around (and against my own judgement) I'm trying the "typical" indie approach.

Instead of building the first starter kit, I put up a landing page (https://laravel-quickstart.com) and shared it out through my existing communities and social platforms.

The intention was to see if people even visited, and if they were willing to potentially pre-order one of the 5 starter kits on offer.

January 2, 2019 The initial idea

Over the last few months I've built out several bespoke B2B SaaS applications for my customers, and I've been thinking about ways to turn them into hosted SaaS products of my own.

A post here on IH changed my thinking: It would be better to start with a once-off product, instead of going for recurring revenue. After thinking about it for a while, I realized I could absolutely take this approach for a product of my own.

About

I'm trying to break a decade of bad habits (build first, ask questions later) and bad assumptions (go straight for MRR since that's the only option), with a product I'm 100% confident I can build and launch.
