LASIDO
iOS app to improve your sight-reading as a musician
I've been running a couple of A/B tests to see if I could increase pricing and it appears that yes. I first raised the price from a one-time payment of $1.99 to $3.99 and saw a 41% increase in revenue without any impact on engagement and retention. I then tried to increase it from $3.99 to $4.99 and this test outperformed the baseline by another 29%.
It's not all about revenue, but seeing that there is some margin here motivates me to work more on the app.
After being on the App Store for 4 years and seeing the number of sales plummeting, I decided to fully rewrite the app, a 2.0 of sorts even though this was delivered as a totally new app on the App Store.
The main ideas being this rewrite were:
- to rewrite the project into modern Swift, the original project was written in Objective-C and was become annoying to update
- to change the pricing model from an upfront $1.99 purchase to an In-App Purchase
- to move the app from landscape mode to portrait, which felt more natural when playing on the phone

LASIDO started has a learning project for iOS development, I was learning the platform during an apprenticeship and decided to apply this new knowledge for solving a problem: learning how to read music and more specifically how to read while you play.

The only way to be comfortable reading music is to practice and repeat over and over.
