Our Explore Terms feature is live. 🚀

We were listening to our users and implemented the most requested feature. Our new search allows users to explore technical terminology and learn at their own pace. 🏎

Feel free to type a term or description of it in the search and our platform will suggest search queries and technical terminology related to them. 🥳

October 1, 2020 Learnings from the first month in production

Learn Tech Terms is 1 month old. 🥳

I've launched this platform designed to simplify learning of the technical terminology on the First of September, 2020.

I set the two goals for the first month:

  1. Get 150 subscribers
  2. Get the feedback from 3 users

The purpose of the first goal to get 150 subscribers is to have a quantifiable measure used to evaluate the success of the launch while the user's feedback will be used as a guide for future development.

Get 150 subscribers

Result: 120/150 subscribed (80%) 🤩

In reality, the number of users who subscribed is 139. However, 19 users entered invalid email addresses. For instance, example@gmial.com instead of the example@gmail.com. I have to implement a new feature to reduce typing mistakes which will result in more subscriptions.

Get the feedback from 3 users

Result: 3/3 feedbacks (100%) 😎

I was talking about Learn Tech Terms with my friends and colleagues before the launch so the first version is already built based on the feedback of potential users. The next step was to talk to 3 users who are actually using the platform on a daily basis. I've spoken to a Software Engineer, Business Development Representative and a Sales Representative. The goal was to confirm that the content sent to their email is relevant, valuable and useful in their every day work. Moreover, it is important to understand what they like, what they don't like and what new functionalities they want to see as a part of the platform. All 3 of them confirmed that they are happy with the content and shared very valuable insights from their point of view. The next step is to change existing and implement new features based on their feedback.

In my opinion, the launch was successful and I'm very happy with the results from the first month. The user base is happy and growing, it's time to turn all of the learnings into a repeatable, winning formula for the future. 👨‍💻

Have you thought about providing a preview of the tech terms of the landing page?

Thank you for the feedback, a few people suggested doing something like that. It will probably be added to the landing page at some point.

September 1, 2020 The story behind Learn Tech Terms

🔥 Working as a software engineer in London for the past few years made me realise that plenty of colleagues without technical background don't understand the technical terminology used to describe the product we build.

It becomes more obvious during the meetings where we discuss ideas, challenges, and potential solutions. As a result, people lose interest and meetings end up being less productive than they could be. Some colleagues ask questions and do their best to understand what is being said but the problem occurs after the meeting when they want to share what was discussed. Often, their emails are too verbose and they are not confident that everything they wrote is correct. In my opinion, we should always do our best to help them out in those situations because it increases the productivity of the whole team.

👩‍💻 A friend of mine is very experienced in selling products and has a proven track record of performing very well. Recently, she joined a tech company to help them sell their software. The product is very technical and complex so it's not easy to learn everything about the product if you don't have a technical background. Potential customers are usually asking technical questions and they expect an answer immediately so there is no time for her to ask one of the colleagues for more information.

She asked me if I can share some resources so that she can learn more about software and software development in general. I shared a few blog posts and videos. The feedback was that the resources are great but the process of learning from them is quite time-consuming.

🤓 All of the above motivated me to develop Learn Tech Terms, a platform designed to simplify learning of the technical terminology.

It's very simple, the user signs up with the email address and gets a new tech term delivered to her email every day from Monday to Friday. Those emails will introduce users to the terminology used in software engineering, digital marketing, graphic design, user experience, and plenty of related fields. The users will learn tech terms one by one so their knowledge will grow significantly without spending too much time at once.

🚀 The goal is to empower the knowledge of non-tech employees working in IT companies and boost their confidence for the next meeting.
