September 28, 2020 Launched Private Beta

Today marks the launch of Learnify's Private Beta!

The focus for the first week of the Beta is to validate our value proposition, squash some bugs, and find out features our beta testers like and dislike the most.

In the few weeks prior to the launch, I've refactored the code base to set it up for scale, and our SDLC will be changing over to Agile, where we will be using our beta testers feedback to drive our sprints.

We plan to stay under the radar and postpone public visibility until a stable release of the app is ready, but for now we are leveraging our current beta testing group to progressively grow our user base through word of mouth.

January 1, 2020 Released public website

After a year of learning programming, I was confident that I finally had what it takes to build Learnify on my own. At this point, the idea for the app had evolved to be a typical schedule planner for university students. Deep down, I knew this wasn't anything unique, nor was it capable of monetization. It was more of a learning project that any kind of business idea.

At this time I released a public website to announce the upcoming release of Learnify, which included a contact form for beta signups. Without any kind of social media publicity I got 5 signups from close friends.

January 1, 2019 The journey begins

After learning some basic HTML and CSS, I decided it was time to build my first "real" project. I wanted to build some sort of school-related full stack application, so January was the start of a 12 month programming journey, starting with JavaScript fundamentals, followed by learning Node, Express, and MongoDB on the backend, and React and Redux on the frontend.
