Ligalio 2022 recap:
We did a lot of testing and improved our privacy policy generator. Here are some of our stats:
π 4.4k website visitors: top sources are Google (SEO + Google Ads), Indie Hackers and LinkedIn.
π 238 registered users: mainly from special promotions, incubators, events, and organic traffic. We also got valuable feedback from many of our early adopters.
βοΈ β¬8500 prize money: during the last 12 months, we participated in 3 different startup competitions and in all of them finished in the top 3.
π’ 100% bootstrapped: So far, our operations have been very lean, total investment β¬3k. It was possible mainly with state grants and local incubator support.
Plans for 2023:
β‘οΈ Product market fit
β‘οΈ Geo expansion
β‘οΈ Revenue growth
β‘οΈ Improve UX and branding
β‘οΈ Fundraising
How did you do during 2022? And what are your big goals for 2023?
Hey!
We started working on Ligalio β a GDPR-compliant privacy policy generator (also for US companies) a bit more than a year ago.
Initially, we thought that launching an MVP would be very easy. It was, once we had the right setup. But to get there, we needed a 7-month "pre-launch" π€£
During this period, one of our key learnings was to work in many small sprints. That's something that works well and keeps the team motivated.
Here you can read the full story of how we launched our MVP and started working on the business idea β https://ligalio.com/blog/mvp-in-14-days
How did you launch your MVP? And what were the main successes or obstacles?

My cofounder built a (very) rough prototype in 5 days, and we posted it on reddit as our "launch" to validate the idea. It led to 3 paying customers within a week, so we decided to invest more time into it and re-launched it a few more times.
Even now, we still try to cut our scope as much as possible or break a project into smaller parts so that we are releasing new features or improvements every 1-2 weeks. We think spending a few months on a project is too risky for us at our current early stage.

5 days is very efficient, great job! Just being curious, on which subreddits and where else did you launch your MVP versions?

Thanks! We were trying to reach developers so mostly web dev and web design subreddits. We did a pretty scrappy Product Hunt launch too (by the second week haha). Then we have been "launching" on Twitter and via emails.

For me, launching the MVP asap when I use the stack that I am most familiar

Great read, I think most people with ideas think that they need a developer right away. But you guys decided to try without one. And when it didn't go according to plan, you guys broke the problem down, which made it easier for a developer to join.

Thank you, glad you found it useful. Our dev process was definitely much smoother because the developer knew exactly what we need.

Today we reached a new milestone of 100 registered users. π₯
It is a great feeling that someone values our work! Also, motivation to keep building.
The primary source for our first users has been local business incubators in Latvia. SEO also helps - we are on the 1st and 2nd Google pages for some keywords. In addition, we have traffic from LinkedIn, and now a few users have registered from Indie Hackers.

Congratulations, that's great!
What strategies did you adopt to get results from LinkedIn and are you posting on any other social media platforms?
Thanks!

My team and I will be taking our learnings from 2022 and turning them into a MVP app.
We were able to grow our client services during 2022 so as we head into 2023 we'll be turning our entry branding services into an app. Starting with an internal rapid prototype (will test with our clients from last year) then expand to an external prototype (will start onboarding clients we've gained this year).
KPIs include Revenue vs Costs, Tests w/ Feedback, Outreaches Sent, Blogs Posted, and Referrals
Primary goal is $300,000 in revenue (as we transition from services I'm hoping $50,000-$100,000 can be attributed to recurring revenue)
Thanks!
It's great that you have an existing user base to test new products.
Interesting to see also the KPIs that you track. As I read in one of YC's posts, revenue must be the main metric. In the beginning, it might be tough to look at this metric, but with time it improves if you put in the work. π€
