Listal Spaces

An app to structure ideas within information spaces.

March 1, 2026 I built an alternative to Notion and ClickUp because I wanted something that would purposely limit me.

For the past few years, productivity apps have become so complex that they allow you to create infinite ways to visualize information. While that's positive for many, my personal philosophy required something to stop me in my tracks—a tool that would naturally guide me into a defined structure without having to configure a thousand things or read through endless documentation.

Full transparency: This is currently a prototype and, frankly, it’s quite "broken." Many things don't work as they should yet. Specifically, the reminders and AI chat are causing a lot of issues and are the main things I need to fix. It’s functional enough to test the core idea, but there is still a massive amount of "ideating" and debugging to do.

The app allows you to create spaces like documents and databases. To this foundation, I’ve added an Excalidraw-style whiteboard where all these spaces are interconnected—like a whiteboard inside a document or a document with nested databases. My goal is to integrate reminders and AI assistants directly into these contexts. A reminder is rarely "standalone"; it’s almost always tied to a thought or a space. The AI should also understand this hierarchy, working within the context of a space and its "children."

A major upcoming feature is the ability to run everything locally. You will be able to download the app, plug in your own API keys, and keep your data on your own device—completely for free. No subscriptions, just your data.

I’d love to get feedback from the community to keep improving it and add features that you actually find useful. I have many more things "ideated" and ready to go, but I just need time to build them.

Tech Stack:

  • Core: Next.js, TypeScript, TailwindCSS.

  • Infrastructure: Supabase, Cloudflare R2.

  • AI/Search: Groq, Tavily.

  • Built in 3 months using: Claude Code, Antigravity, and Cursor.

  • AI Models: Claude Opus 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro.

Any feedback on this project (even if it's just telling me what broke) would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!

About

I came up with the idea of creating an app similar to Notion or ClickUp because, having used them before, I found them a bit complicated to use and they didn't quite align with my organizational and work philosophy.
