Lolaloos

Two years ago, my niece Lola came to visit for Christmas. We realized too late that we didn’t have a single children's book in the house. We ended up reading her a random magazine at bedtime just to have something to look at. It wasn't exactly magical.

Fast forward to the next year. I was in the shower, getting ready to head out and buy some books for her next visit, when it hit me: I work in tech. Why am I going to a store when I can build her something unique? Lolaloos.com was born.

The 3-Day Sprint

I set myself a challenge to build the MVP in three days:

• Day 1: The storytelling engine.

• Day 2: The image generation logic.

• Day 3: The app interface.

I tested it with Lola that weekend. She loved it, but as you know, kids are the toughest QA testers. It looked like she liked it but wasn't as amazed as I was...

Evolution & Features

Since that first Christmas test, I’ve turned that 3-day experiment into a full-scale platform called lolaloos. I’ve focused on solving the real problems parents face:

• Offline First: You can download and print the books. Kids get the magic of a physical book without the "blue light" of a screen before bed (her mother likes this more than her tbh).

• Character Creation: You aren't just reading about a random person; you can build your own character so the child sees themselves in the story.

• Live Translation & Multi-language: Perfect for bilingual families. You can even translate the story live while reading.

• Consistency & Mobile UI: I’ve worked hard on image consistency so the characters look the same on page 1 and page 23.

• Mobile UI: Maybe you don't have a tablet or you don't want your kids to read screens, but the phone is the best thing to build the story and later download it.

What started as a way to avoid reading a toys magazine to my niece has become a mission to make every child the hero of their own story.
