As a software engineer, when I was preparing for a demanding technical certification, I ran into a familiar bottleneck: going through hundreds of pages of documentation and manually creating flashcards for active recall took more time than the actual studying.

To speed up the process, I wrote a quick personal script. It used AI to parse my study materials, automatically generate practice questions, and schedule reviews using a spaced repetition algorithm. The system worked exceptionally well, saving me dozens of hours and helping me pass the exam.

After sharing the tool with a few fellow developers who immediately wanted to use it themselves, I realized this was a widespread problem worth solving. I polished the project, built out a proper UI, and launched LongTerMemory as a full SaaS. What started as a simple script to optimize my own study routine is now a web and mobile platform used by students and professionals worldwide.

Really interesting product, especially the jump from manual flashcard creation to an automated study system.
One area I’d be curious about is trust in the AI-generated cards how do you help users quickly spot duplicates, weak questions, or content that isn’t actually aligned with their exam syllabus?
A lightweight quality-control layer could make the automation feel much more reliable, especially for high-stakes certifications.
Curious if you’ve seen this become a real issue with users so far?

  About the card trust aspect, it essentially comes down to this: 1) Providing the model with as much context as possible 2) Constructing the prompt dynamically and in as much detail as possible (the prompt that will generate the Q&A pairs) 3) Using a good OCR model for content chunking and parsing (I use LlamaParse, which is phenomenal)

    That makes sense. I like the context-first approach, especially for certification material where small parsing errors can affect the quality of the cards. One thing I’d be curious about is how you validate the final Q&A after generation do you have any automated quality checks or user feedback loop to catch incorrect or ambiguous cards over time?

        That could become a really valuable feedback loop. If you can turn user corrections into signals for improving generation quality not just fixing individual cards it could make the system progressively more reliable for high-stakes exams. The fact that fellow developers immediately wanted the personal script is a stronger signal than the original problem itself. Curious whether the strongest demand is still from technical certification prep, or whether broader study workflows are now pulling more users.

    I think there can be traction there, especially if the broader workflow still solves a recurring problem rather than becoming a generic study tool. The interesting part will be whether users keep coming back for the automation itself.

        I mainly mean a use case where the same study problem repeats often enough that automation becomes part of the routine, rather than something people use occasionally.
