7 Day Experiments to Improve My Usefulness to Society
Consistency is key.
So I keep showing up to make and release videos.
This weeks video I want to get more confident in the water so I challenged myself to swim every day for 15 minutes.
Let me just say this...
Swimming is hard!
Notes on YouTube Channel Growth:
None yet, just posted will update this update after 1 week.
- First 24 hours views only 23 views. This is half what the other two videos were getting in the first 24 hours. Likely because the Impression CTR on YT platform is less than 1% so YT is not showing it much.
And just like that, the first video is live on YouTube.
In this one I explored an experiment I've been living for the past 9 months.
Living Alcohol-Free.
I could share the story here but that's the point of the video, so if that topic interests you check it out here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwcsWwDr5Hc&t=1s
That being said, I do want to track the growth of the YouTube channel going forward.
Some interesting learnings from this first video:
-
I already had 100 subscribers but I gained 8 more subscribers within the first day of posting this video.
-
On the first day of posting I only shared the video with a handful of friends privately. Only garnering 27 views in 24 hours.
-
On the second day after posting I shared to my personal Facebook Profile. This boosted views by over 100 views within the next 2 days.
-
I tried posting an image on Instagram along with a link in the bio and that did not generate any extra views.
My thoughts are to post on Facebook first right as the video goes live and then test out other channels in the future to see their effectiveness.
In fact I'm writing this post in the future. It's part of my efforts to see if this channel will drive interest to the channel. ;)
If you've started a YouTube channel (experience or new) I'd love to hear from you what's working and what you've tried.

With the new year I decided now was the best time to get started.
(Peg my ambitions to a major occasion.)
So, I started a YouTube channel.
More like revived. I already have 100 subscribers on my existing channel that have been accumulating after I posted a set of 25 videos for the 25 days of new things I did on my 25th birthday 6 years ago.
Why start a YouTube channel?
There were 3 main reasons:
-
I sit in front of a computer all day (almost every day). I want to do something that gets me active and requires a different set of skills than what I'm typically doing (marketing).
-
I had a realization about 2 months ago that I'm not an incredibly useful person. Call it a quarter life crisis, having recently passed 30, or maybe it's the 2 kids and a wife I've collected up until now... I just realize there is much I haven't learned and much less I know how to do. And I want to change that.
-
This could eventually become the path to self-directed income. No longer being dependent on a job.
If you're interested in a channel that explores trying personal experiments to see what is best to pursue in the day-to-day routine then check out the channel. https://www.youtube.com/c/LukeFrancis8
The first video drops on the 6th.

About
The theory is that when I am most useful I am most happy. So, I try out different skills in the fields of knowledge, physical, beliefs, and discipline to improve my life so that I can become more useful to society.
