Tool me Up

New logo + new feature launch!

Since March, we have now a brand new logo to complement our new Tool me up name. I worked with a very talented freelance that did a great job with it!

We also worked on a few illustrations to bring this robot to life, by animating it! We need to hold on to this project for a little bit, managing our cashflows and prioritising our launch rollout.

We added a new exciting feature, to allow our users to make their own toolstack! It's the fastest and best way to use our database to find the tools you need. You can now use filters like: Tool categories, Tech fluency and Integrations. That's right, you can filter tools by the native integrations they offer!

Now marching towards data base enrichment and a proper launch rollout!

About 1 week late after the 1st of March target, but we made it!
The "plumbing" of the website is all set up, front end, database, community, notifications, all running & working!

To start with the right foot, and serve our community on day one, we started the Spotlight Program! A free interview of a no-code founder to showcase their story and product/service.

It's now time to spread the word and set up our interviews!

On the side we are still working on the logo, we are done exploring options and we are now "converging" on 3 potential winner ideas. Exciting stuff!

I had a revelation while I was going through this tool review sprint. I was wrong, I was sprinting in the wrong direction.

My understanding of the value of this project was that the reviews themselves and their smart categorisation were the most important.

However, when I started to consider the actual needs of the tool-builders (people that create those tools) & makers (that use those tools for their projects, side-hustles and startups), it came to me:
it should all be about community 🙌 💯

Because without community, makers & tool-builders won't have the support they need. The reviews are still very important, but they only exist to better serve our community, to help makers pick the right tools and offer precise feedback to tool builders.

This revelation changed a lot, including the required website features pre-launch and thinking about how I could serve this community of makers & tool-builders the best!

The launch date was initially planned for in 2 weeks, which I will try to respect.

Now that the platform & tech is all figured out, it's time to jump on my keyboard and start writing reviews to launch on the first of March!

I got a long list, but will probably need to find some tools along the way. I will probably descope categories that I am not sure about.

But this is looking good! Soft launch on the 01/03/2021 planned, with a target of 30 reviews and 6 categories covered!

After lots of thinking, I decided to park the voice-app. Turns out that the remaining tasks were mostly building the database, that could be used to create a web-app in a few hours. So here we go!

I am building the new website on softer + airtable.
The tech side of the project is now done, thanks to the softer support team that has been amazing!

After a few months of procrastination, I came back to this baby and dusted my plans on the MVP.

• I picked and tested the tool I need to create the voice App.
• Defined the scope of the MVP for a live beta soon on Google Assistant.
• Started building most of the logic, branching and key parts of the product.

Looks like we are just a few weeks away from going live!
