100,000 users on Mailmeteor

Today Mailmeteor has reached the 100,000 users milestone 🏆

It took 8 months to grow Mailmeteor to this stage. Months and months of experiments & learnings. Back in early October, we had published a milestone here for the 40k users milestone!

One of the most valuable lessons so far: the hardest part is not about building the product but finding efficient channels of distribution.

We're now able to shift our focus to 80% distribution / 20% building (at least we're trying to!!). Though it's always hard to find the balance, especially at the very beginning.

Next week's challenge is all about trying a new distribution channel: we'll be launching on Product Hunt.

Can we count on your upvotes? ☄️

Congrats Guys, I have been using Mailmeteor a few times. It is easy to use :)

    1. 1

Thanks Johnny, that's really nice to hear @jdogahmv

  2. 2

That's is rapid growth. What channels have been efficient and deep?

    Can you share MRR?

  3. 2

Been looking for EXACTLY this! Make that 100,001. Shoot me an email if you can Jean, I have an Instagram page that reaches 60-100k people per week (music artists). Could definitely work on pushing this to them since contacting blogs and journalists would be valuable to them!

Wow! 100k users in 8 months. Truly impressive!

Congratulations, @Cuireuncroco! That is such an impressive feat.

Could I get some tips on distribution when you have some downtime? I'm working on a Gsuite-enabled product and I think could learn a thing or two (or ten).

Sure Saptarshi @sapsonic please get in touch with us, for example by Twitter DM! I'll be glad to share experience with you.

Hi @Cuireuncroco, apologies for missing this by such a huge margin! I've followed you on twitter from my personal ID (/s*********ath), can you follow me back so I can DM you?

And you just earned another user. I just sent my first campaign. You can definitely count on my upvote.

Done with the google security assessment? Curious to know

      Thanks a lot Utsav! @utsavnakrani

Yes, we did pass several audits from Google to ensure Mailmeteor is secure and reliable. However, we have managed to avoid the audit from their third party security partners. It was way too expensive (>$20K).

We did so by ensuring Mailmeteor does not access any sensitive email data at all times, which in the end is a key differentiator compared to competitors.

I'll keep you posted on the PH launch!

        Thanks! Appreciate the love.

I have an additional question. I currently use milkshake. I can track responses and schedule emails.

Do you have this type of automation in place or in the roadmap?

        1. 1

Yes! thay may come in the future. However, currently, that would imply requesting access to user's inbox, which we want to avoid to ensure your data stay stafe.

    First off, congrats!

"One of the most valuable lessons so far: the hardest part is not about building the product but finding efficient channels of distribution."

^ this is something that so many creators seem to forget.

Curious, what were some of the experiments in distribution channels that didn't work for Mailmeteor?

  11. 1

Great to see you guys succeed (just switched to premium last week). Big congrats 👏

Thanks a lot Mike for your cheering words @humanismusic_
It's really cool to know we have indiehackers supporting us. You've been there throughout the journey, thank you for this! Hope you enjoy using Mailmeteor.

Wow, and I was happy for growing to over 10k users in one year, this is insane.

Can you share the channel that most worked for you? I totally agree in finding the right channel is the key.

I think you will be disappointed with PH, it is extremely overated.

      hola Ariel @arielc
The most effective channel for us is the Gsuite marketplace. We are focusing on raising steadily the add-on's reputation by growing the review count. Then, we are pushing targeted outbound campaigns to segments we have identified among our users.

Growing to 10K users is really impressive and should not be played down (especially if your % of paid users is high or if your average basket size is important). For example, only a small fraction of our users are paid ones at the moment since we offer a generous free tier (X2 compared to competitors).

Really interested to know more about your project and your PH experience. We're not expecting much from it but still, it required quite a lot of work. You're saying it is not necessarily worth it in the end?

      1. 1

Hi, thanks for your reply! I imagined that it was the best channel looking at your previous publications and your app reviews, we are doing exactly the same in another google marketplace :)

Will PM you with more details, we can integrate our products.

I haven't launched in PH yet, I also think it's a lot of effort and I've seen the results from some other close founders, in general, investing a lot of time to being scored top 3 and getting around 1k-3k new visitors and 3 or 4 paid customers (the same day).

I suppose it can be a good strategy if you plan to be on the PH comparison pages adding up a good number of upvotes over time.

        1. 1

Alright, I'll let you know about the launch results!
Definitely, I think one should not rely on Product Hunt only. However, I'm curious to try it and see if the efforts are worth it.

I've spent quite some time working on the launch in the past months, producing a motion design video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccO5i3gQXSk), gathering our network, reading articles... It's time that you don't put elsewhere for sure.

          Wait and see ☄️

Hello Jean, congrats on this hugeee milestone!

I actually wrote an article discussing about the worthiness of Product Hunt and it's featured on Hackernoon. I think it can give you a bit of a different perspective: https://medium.com/hackernoon/product-hunt-is-it-worth-the-hype-c1b78f45be11

I don't deny the traffic coming from PH, but I also agree with @arielc that the more expectation we put on it, the more disappointment we might have (if it turns out sour). Still, if you're so inclined to hit the top list, here's my article to help you: https://medium.com/hackernoon/product-hunt-c-a-t-the-ultimate-approach-for-app-of-the-day-361b9193dde1

Many thanks for your work Peter, that's definitely worth reading. @Petervu
