Manga AI

I have a few manga creators around me who regularly turn stories into comics.

Watching how they work is what made me interested in this space.

The workflow usually looks something like this:

Start with a story or novel idea.

Create the characters.

Generate or draw the scenes.

Then move everything into Photoshop or Canva to arrange panels, adjust the layout, add dialogue, fix characters, and turn a bunch of images into something that actually feels like a comic.

AI has made one part of that much faster: generating images.

But the rest of the workflow is still surprisingly manual.

At first, it’s easy to assume that better image models will eventually solve most of this.

The more I looked at how ordinary creators actually work, the less I believed that.

Image quality matters, of course.

But if the same character keeps changing between panels, or if you have to fight the editor every time you want to move a panel, change a bubble, adjust a pose, or regenerate one part of the page, a better-looking image doesn’t really fix the workflow.

That became the idea behind Manga AI.

Instead of building another tool where you enter a prompt and get one manga-style image, we’re trying to connect the whole process: story, characters, image generation, panels, dialogue, and a canvas where the creator can keep editing everything.

The part I care about most is the balance between AI and control.

For casual creators, I don’t think character consistency alone is enough. The editor also needs to be convenient and flexible enough that you can actually shape the result into what you had in mind.

And that’s the biggest thing we’re trying to validate right now.

Not whether AI can generate a manga page.

It can.

The harder question is whether a manga creator looks at the combination of the AI models + canvas editor and thinks:

“Yes, I can actually make the comic I wanted with this.”

And eventually:

“This saves me enough work that I’d pay for it.”

What would make an AI manga tool genuinely useful enough for you to pay for it?

Better character consistency?

Better image quality?

More control in the editor?

Or something else entirely?
