There are already a dozen AI presentation makers out there. So why did I spend months building Manot?
Honestly, I was frustrated. I needed a tool to quickly generate professional slide decks, but every popular AI tool I tried felt like a toy. They are incredible at generating beautiful, fluid "web cards", but the moment I needed real design control, I hit a wall. You're forced into rigid templates, and you're completely locked out if you don't have an internet connection.
I realized the market was ignoring power users who want AI generation without sacrificing professional control.
So, I built Manot.
Here are the technical and product choices I made to stand out: 1. Local-first & Offline-capable: I built it as a PWA using local DB. You can generate a deck, hop on a flight without Wi-Fi, and keep editing your slides. It seamlessly syncs to our backend when you reconnect. 2. Citation-Backed AI: Instead of risking hallucinations, the Deep Research engine pulls factual data to generate content. 3. A True Editing Studio: It respects traditional slide architecture rather than web layouts, giving you pixel-perfect control over every element.
I'm currently bootstrapping this and focusing heavily on organic SEO to compete with the big players in the space.

One thing I'd be careful with:
The interesting question may not be whether the local-first difference is real.
It may be what decision users are actually making when they choose an AI presentation tool in the first place.
Those sound similar, but they can lead to very different conclusions about positioning, proof, and what deserves emphasis.
I wouldn't make that call casually this early.
