21,000 email subscribers!

Hello Hello!

My marketing newsletter hit 21,000 subscribers!

It’s been a long road. But, a straight road. I found a formula. And stuck to it. Write. Promote. Write. Promote. Write. Promote.

I remember Indie Hackers put on a group chat with
James Clear last year. He was on 200k subscribers. That number sounded absurd to me. I asked him how he did it. He told me he'd written two articles a week for 5 years.

I realise that I keep doing what I'm doing I'll be on around 200k subscribers after 5 years ...

50% of any success is down to consistency.

My newsletter is my content marketing

If i tried to do content marketing and write a newsletter both would be half as good.

So I work really hard on one article. Try and make it awesome. And then it doubles as my content marketing.

50 hardcore fans and you're rolling

Thousands of articles get published each day:

* 95% barely get read

  • 4% do well
  • 1% take off

If you've got 50 hardcore fans you can get in that 4% category EVERY time. Cause they'll share your article. And talk about it.

You earn them by going BIG. Writing something so good you can’t get ignore you. Also, by interacting. Taking people on your journey with you.

Thank you for reading. If you'd like to check out my newsletter it's here. Any questions let me know. I'll be back at 25,000!

Congrats Harry! I've learned a lot from you in the past month since I found out about you and I've been following your approach closely. You're my distant learning instructor except that you don't know it 😂

By the way, your writing tips on twitter are gold.

    Three questions:
-How did you get your first 50 hardcore fans?
-Do you have one steady platform to engage with users or do you use multiple channels? I feel like engaging through multiple channels is a whole job by itself.
-How did you grow your twitter following? I recently started on Twitter and I've read all kinds of things like comment on a famous person's tweets, retweet others, like a lot of tweets, etc. But these things don't seem to have made any difference for me.

    Thanks again!

      cheers.

      • people followed me after i wrote this story about a dating app i built for Kanye West fans. around 50 followed marketing examples cause of it. slowly but surely turned into fans. one on one email helps with that.

      • i engage everywhere i post. twitter / reddit / IH / email / fb groups

      • you need to be able to answer the question, “why should someone follow me” . Then consistently create content that supports that why. Also make online friends. your first 100 followers can just be 50 Indie Hackers ... there's always threads about boosting each others twitter flying round

Just read the Kanye story. You are one helluva guy!

But more than that you are a master at storytelling.

Thanks again for all the tips!

    I subscribed today. Wondering if I'm the 21,000th 😅

Congratulations though! For the effort you put in, that number probably lacks a 0 (or 2 or more may be).

Oh awesome. Thanks Rajat. I think in business you tend to get what you deserve. When I get the extra 0 I'll deserve it.

Marketing Examples is hands down one of my favorite online marketing resources. I don’t regularly read many newsletters I’m subscribed to, but I think I’ve read just about all of your emails. Love how direct and actionable your tips are.

Still need to implement a ton of them, but I’m just grateful that your newsletter is forcing me to repeatedly think about marketing strategy.

    Keep up the awesome work!
