QuickEditVideo
Free Online Video Editor - Cut, Trim & Convert Videos
Last week I stumbled on a Reddit post where someone was asking for a simple online tool to turn subtitle .srt files into speech. I couldn’t believe there is no a good solution out there, so… I built one.
Day 1
I hacked together a minimal prototype by porting KittenTTS into a browser runtime. That gave me basic text-to-speech working in the browser — no servers, no uploads, fully private.
Day 2
I added subtitle support. You can now drop in an .srt file and generate audio that perfectly aligns with your captions.
A few extras I snuck in along the way:
🎶 Queueing – feed in longer subtitle files, no problem.
⏱ Auto-fit – voice automatically fits within each subtitle’s duration.
⚡ Manual speed control – adjust playback speed per subtitle line.
📦 Output options – download as individual clips in a ZIP, or merge into one MP3 that matches your SRT timings.
Right now it’s:
✅ Free & unlimited
✅ Runs entirely in your browser (private, no uploads)
✅ No paywall, no login required
✅ English only (for now)

Would love feedback from anyone who works with subtitles, captions, or accessibility tools. What features would you want next?
Hey Indie Hackers,
I just shipped a new feature for QuickEditVideo.com: in-browser text-to-speech powered by a small but surprisingly capable open model called KittenTTS (15M parameters):
👉 You can try it right now here: QuickEditVideo.com/tts
🔧 Background
When building QuickEditVideo, I often needed quick narration or voiceovers for clips. Most TTS solutions I tried were:
Cloud-only (expensive + slow)
Proprietary (black box models)
Or simply too heavy to run in-browser
So I decided to integrate a lightweight, functional, open TTS model directly into the browser.
✨ What’s new in this release
On top of making KittenTTS run locally, I’ve added some quality-of-life features:
WASM → Turn original Python implementation into JS+WASM, making it fully functional in the browser.
Queueing → Handle multiple text tasks smoothly without blocking main UI thread.
Task history → Reuse and manage your generated audio.
Performance improvements → Optimized for faster inference in-browser.
Text auto-chunking → Splits and sanitizes long text into chunks automatically.
The result: you can paste text, hit generate, and get a voiceover within seconds, no server round trips.
🌟 Why this matters
Runs in your browser — no API keys, no logins, no data sent to servers.
Small model, big usability — 15M parameters sounds tiny compared to giants, but it’s fast and good enough for many voiceover needs.
Open & hackable — I want indie devs and creators to actually see how things work, not just consume from a black box.
🔮 Next steps
More voice presets and styles
Export audio directly into QuickEditVideo’s video timeline
Potential premium voices for those who need studio-level polish

I’d love feedback from IH:
Would you use in-browser TTS for quick prototyping / voiceovers?
What’s more important to you — speed, voice quality, or cost?
Thanks for reading, and I hope some of you try it out!

Hey Indie Hackers,
I just launched QuickEditVideo.com — a free, browser-based video editing tool designed to make common edits super fast without the bloated complexity of pro software.
👋 Background Story
I’ve always loved building products, but like many indie makers, I ran into the same problem: editing videos for demos, tutorials, or social content was a time sink.
Most video editors felt like overkill — giant downloads, heavy UIs, and too many features I didn’t need. Online editors either added watermarks, forced logins, or were painfully slow.
So I decided to scratch my own itch. I built QuickEditVideo with the idea of video editing with dignity — fast, free, and open.
✨ What makes it different
No sign-up, no watermark → Just upload and edit.
Fast in-browser processing → Uses optimized WASM + FFmpeg for snappy edits.
Focused tools → Only the stuff people use all the time:
Trim
Crop
Merge
Resize
Convert
Free & Open → The tool runs in your browser, no hidden paywalls for basic features.
I didn’t try to reinvent Adobe Premiere — I just wanted to make the “90% of tasks” dead simple and fast.
🔮 What’s next
Adding fun extras like SRT auto AI TTS 🎉
Building SEO-friendly micro-tools around editing use-cases (animated text, meme maker, etc.)
🙌 Why I’m sharing here
I’ve learned a ton from Indie Hackers and wanted to give back by sharing the launch. QuickEditVideo is already live and usable.

Would love feedback from this community:
What features do you actually use most when editing short videos?
If you were to pay, what pro features would matter to you?
Thanks for reading, and happy editing!
