Wise people say that there should be the right time and the right place for a project. I have definitely chose bad time for the MarrySign project but it took some time and research effort to realize that.

First of all, I started the project in the middle of the so called crypto-winter, when stocks were low and a few scandals were destroying peoples impressions over crypto and blockchain in general. You might say - you just needed to persevere until it's all over. I don't think so because people's skepticism was not the only negative indicator.

I found a guy here on IndieHackers who worked on a similar idea a few years ago and when I asked him why he abandoned the project, he answered something like: "Because no one needed it."

After talking to potential users I also realized that I was solving a problem which might not exist. The real pain was caused by divorces and not by bureaucracy and conservatism of the existing marital approaches.

• I lost a potential co-founder for their personal reasons,
• Blockchain is really hard for making quick changes,
• I couldn't focus on this project full-time anymore because I was running out of savings, - an accelerator didn't accept the project,
• and some others.

To sum up, it was a good experiment which was worth it. I've acquired some new skills, worked with Blockchain, talked to potential users on Reddit and in other places, got experience in applying to an accelerator. But now it's time to switch to something else.

What is MarrySign?

MarrySign is a web app, it's a cheap, fast and unrestricted alternative to traditional marriages. We empower any couple create and sign their crypto-marital agreement online on their own terms.

How does it work?

One partner fill in the couple's details and send a link to the agreement draft to the second partner. If it's all good, the second partner accepts the agreement and that's it - time to celebrate. As simple as that. Every agreement has its unique shareable link to send to friends and families.

How much does it cost?

For the period of Beta, I decided not to charge anything except the Ethereum network gas fees which we can't get rid of and are currently about $8 for agreement creation and $2 for agreement acceptance. The gas fees depend on the Ethereum price and current network load, sometimes smaller, sometimes larger.

Chainlink Hackathon Fall 2022 has just ended. It's been intense and fun five weeks.

Although MarrySign didn't receive any prizes, I'm happy I had such a great opportunity to learn blockchain and start a project which I truly believe in.

Although I can't change code of the project until hackathon judges come up with their decision on December 2d, I can still talk with users.

Well, it's been quite intense five weeks of learning, codding, experimenting and debugging, and now my project is open for judges on a test Ethereum network (Goerli).

Not everything is working ideal but that's why I called it Beta and added a disclaimer to the footer of the app page.

5-week long hackathon dedicated to Blockchain and Chainlink services where I'm going to build a working prototype for my idea.

Came up with a name and registered marrysign.com domain.

Although I'm quite an experienced Full-Stack dev, it will be my first Web3 project where I will have to learn a lot.

In some places in the world, parents still choose couples for their daughters and sons. No one cares whether they love each other or not. I’d like to give such people a choice, so that their happiness would not depend on other people’s decisions.

My wife and I wanted to register our marriage as quickly as possible but it was not feasible in our home country because of the state rules, so we had to wait for two months in the queue. I want people like us to be able to register their family when they want it regardless of the rules that the state enforces.

I have a couple of friends who had to go to Copenhagen, Denmark to sign their marital agreement because same-sex marriages were absolutely illegal in their home country. I’d love people to be able to get married without the need to go to another country for that.

I believe that current family registering approaches are wrong and I want to challenge them. That’s why I came up with the idea of a platform for registering marriages online, on Blockchain, fully transparently and openly.
