Automate image creation
I worked on content marketing teams since graduating college in 2014. I started at a small agency, then a bootstrapped startup, and eventually moved to a venture-backed company in Atlanta.
Last year, I was laid off from my marketing job as a result of COVID. I changed my focus to web development, which I had been teaching myself for a couple of years prior. I always wanted to build products and start my own company, so I started thinking about what problem I could solve and build a company around.
I tried a lot of ideas, but one stuck with me. In my 7 years on marketing teams, each team had a pain point when it came to creating on-brand images quickly. With this problem in mind, I thought to myself, "What if I could create an image from a React component?" Little did I know, this was the start of Mattermix.
I built the initial concept for Mattermix last summer but wasn't really satisfied with the direction it was heading. Then, after speaking with some former co-workers, I decided to scrap everything and build a version of Mattermix where users could create Templates by writing code, which I wrote about here.
I ran this version of Mattermix by some early users and the consensus was that writing your own code was a bit cumbersome. So, again, I went back and made some changes to the editor. This time, I built a drag-and-drop editor that allowed the CSS to be edited with inputs, dropdowns, and sliders.
And here we are! The first version of Mattermix is live and I'm excited to share it with the Indie Hacker community. 🤗
