August 1, 2026 I Got Tired of Ad-Filled Media Downloaders, So I Built My Own

Hi Indie Hackers! 👋

A few months ago, I noticed something that kept frustrating me.

Whenever I needed a simple media downloader, I had to jump through websites full of pop-ups, fake download buttons, redirects, and aggressive ads. Even when they worked, the experience was far from enjoyable.

Instead of complaining about it, I decided to build something better.

That's how MediaMint started.

MediaMint is a growing collection of clean, free media tools designed to make downloading and converting content simple. My goal isn't to build another bloated platform with hundreds of features—it's to build focused tools that solve everyday problems with a clean user experience.

Building it has taught me much more than I expected. I've spent countless hours learning about SEO, performance optimisation, deployment, debugging, indexing, and what it really takes to launch a product people can actually use.

I'm still very early in the journey, and there's plenty to improve. Every piece of feedback helps shape what comes next.

If you have a few minutes, I'd love to hear your thoughts:

Is the user experience intuitive?

Are there any features you'd like to see?

What would make you come back and use it again?

Thanks for reading! I'm excited to build in public and learn from this community. 🚀

“One link simplicity is nice. Curious — what’s the main reason people choose this over existing converters? Speed, quality, or privacy?

The main thing is speed and quality both and we also don't collect cookies and check user data since it's not login and signup and we don't collect user data since it's no login and sign up tool which also maintains user's privacy, there was no audio option earlier we also added that and made the other reqd pages and also included a feature section so the product is also constantly getting updated, if you like them you can upvote us so we can reach more people 😊. Thanks for your response

That makes sense — ads introduce a delayed feedback loop, which makes early retention harder to read.

In cases like this, I’ve seen teams track behavior before results instead — like whether users come back to check or adjust campaigns before outcomes land.

Curious if you’re seeing any of that early ‘monitoring habit’ forming yet?

I think the best utility products become almost invisible.

People don't remember them because they have lots of features—they remember them because they solved a problem quickly enough that they never had to think about the tool itself.

About

I built MediaMint to make media downloads simple, fast, and free. Too many tools are filled with ads and fake buttons, so I'm creating a cleaner alternative while learning and sharing my journey.
