November 1, 2021 Hacktober with an amazing community

First time going into Hacktober, we did not want to put up our expectations too high. Consequently, we were overwhelmingly surprised to see the amount of contributors that came to Medusa during this month that resulted in:

  • 64 merged pull requests
  • 21 pull requests in review
  • +100% new Discord members
  • 4 community plugins

We were incredibly humbled by the participation! 🙏

October 7, 2021 1,000 GitHub stars

From having some 80'ish stars in September to rounding 1,000 stars already a month later was absolutely amazing! Along the journey, we received so much positive feedback from the developer community testing out our solution.

Amazing to see how quickly the community embraced us 🤩

September 20, 2021 100 community members

Since the offset, Medusa has been focused on two key things:

  • Building a solution that puts developers first
  • Growing a community around the project

Therefore we were also extremely proud to reach our first 100 community members in our Discord community.

July 1, 2021 First VC funding

In July we closed the first funding round to support our mission of:

Lowering the bar for when developers and merchants can start building headless commerce solutions 🙏

We received ~1mUSD in funding from SeedCamp and 13 angels (incl. Netlify founding team and previous Contentful investors) to support our journey.

May 15, 2021 Medusa Commerce was born

After speaking to both outside developers and other e-commerce clients about the need for a fully custom e-commerce backend, it became evident to us that Medusa had broader applicability than TEKLA Fabrics. We, therefore, decided to put our full focus into building Medusa as an open-source project for the developer community.

Medusa Commerce was soon after incorporated as Medusa Commerce and we moved our focus away from being an agency to being fully product-focused

September 1, 2018 Medusa built for TEKLA Fabrics

Medusa was originally built as a bespoke solution for Tekla Fabrics. They wanted an ecommerce backend that gave them full ownership of their tech stack and which enabled them to build a true on-brand experience that could easily be scaled across markets.

The product was a huge success for TEKLA Fabrics that managed to increase conversion by +70% and easily extend their setup to support their rapid growth journey from a domestic brand to selling in +50 different markets today.
