Save friends' iMessage stickers as full memes — not Apple's

May 21, 2026 I built MemePouch to steal the full memes from friends in iMessage

I like using the full set of memes in iMessage and being able to steal memes from my friends, but I couldn't find an app like that, so I made my own---MemePouch. Apple's system stickers allow me to long-press and automatically cut out the subject, and they can be saved between friends. However, I've also encountered many problems, which has led to my friends and I rarely using them.

First, the cutout function sometimes doesn't work with long-pressing. The solution I later discovered was to record the image as a video, then convert it to a Live Photo using another app. Then in Apple's stickers, clicking "Add Sticker" and selecting the Live Photo and it will automatically cuts out the subject and saves it as a sticker (it can't select static images...i don't know why).

I think most people are probably clear about the second question. The cutout function on the Apple sticker ruins my memes... especially if the memes contain text...

I've explored as many apps as possible in the App Store, and the most I've found is Sticker Maker, which can directly convert images into stickers, and another app that can convert live streams and videos into GIFs (I don't remember which one). But then another problem arises... These third-party stickers attach correctly to messages when sent through iMessage, behaving the same as system stickers. When you long-press these stickers, you can see the "Save to Stickers" option appear at the bottom. But when you click save, the sticker drawer pops up at the bottom... and then it gets stuck... nothing happens. I don't know why,it might be a bug or Apple has restrictions on third-party stickers.

But I couldn't stand it anymore. I like all the other features of iMessage, but it can't be without memes, so I decided to make one myself. I studied Apple's API and how to successfully save complete meme stickers. I couldn't find it in the API documentation, but I finally discovered a way to save them to the app by dragging with two fingers. I tried other sticker apps, and they all failed. Apple didn't provide this method. I worked with Codex to capture network packets and finally discovered how to parse static stickers and GIFs. Finally, I succeeded. It can save now. I called this app MemePouch. It supports both static emojis and GIFs. According to my tests, any sticker sent to you in a message, whether it's an Apple system sticker, a MemePouch sticker, or a sticker from another third-party sticker app, can be saved to the MemePouch sticker library by dragging. MemePouch doesn't need an internet connection, doesn't collect data, and I didn't create a sticker community; it's just a small tool. If you find this app helpful, you can search for it on the App Store (it's not currently available in the EU; it seems some kind of certificate is required). If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know.
