MetricsJar
All-in-one metrics dashboard
I've purchased an annual plan for Grammarly for encouraging myself to write more consistently.
In this post, I wrote about some product updates regarding the MetricsJar MVP, and also some thoughts about demoing to investors vs. customers.
Indie Hacking on the side is so tiring - but I am sure that it will be worth it in the end.
1 day a week is not a lot of time to work on a side project. However, with proper planning it is doable!
I wrote a blog post on how I am planning and building out the MVP for MetricsJar. (link below)
Also done this week is a clickable prototype so I can demo the solution to see if it solves the problem for other startup founders.

Well done! It’s super nice you are building a blog along with the product. Really good for SEO :)

Thanks @marcinem. Mailist looks really good!

Thanks :) Not here to promote my product, but you should definitely stay tuned as I am launching version 2 this week ;). (after a year and a half of "passive" development)

Yup I will - just followed you on Twitter 😄. How many person working on it?

Now 2 – me and my friend developer, who joined after a successful launch. Without him, I wouldn't make it!

Are you the designer?

Yes sir. But also a developer. Here you can read more about how this project was born: https://www.indiehackers.com/@marcinem/cc037eba66

That's a very elaborate article! I'm put to a shame with my sketchy process described in Wrenches.
Will you share the prototype? What is your plan for the next steps?-
1
Yes I will share here when ready. Next steps is to finish off MVP and get beta users using it in December. I only have one day a week to work on this 😭. What’s your plan for Wrenches?
-

Ahhh that's too bad. I have like a couple of hours a day top for all my projects, too. Really tough to be a bootstrapper these days...
Your plan is OK, but why December? Sounds like a lot of time, what are you planning in your MVP? Isn't it too much?
For wrenches I've just made a little restructuring and now I'm going to work on SEO and add new content incrementally. But for me it's already nice, I'm going to use it myself for now-

MVP would be:
- As a user, I can connect Google Analytics, Twitter and MailChimp as datasources
- As a user, I can create a dashboard based on metrics from those (page views, unique visitors, followers, and subscribers count)
- As a user, I can get my dashboard metrics in Slack daily/weekly
Kinda hard to test these works without building something.
It’s also something I would personally use right now as I’m building out MetricsJar 😂
December because i’m only working on this 1 day a week, so today until December ~ 9 days of work.

Great to see you blog publicly about the MVP process. I’ll definitely be following along!

Thanks @dbtlr, what’s ur current preferred tech stack?

These days I’m heavily interested in using Node for the backend and React for the front end. I generally use either a Postgres or Mongo database, depending on what I’m working on. You?
-
1
Same!
- React (Next.js) on the front end
- Nodejs on the backend with Apollo GraphQL, Serverless framework
- DB wise, I am exploring DynamoDB as it works great with Serverless, but usually its Postgres (TypeORM)

Wow, that is scarily aligned with the experimental stack I’m playing with for a new project. Haven’t used it enough to say its my regular stack yet, but I’m hoping it will stick.
Let me know if you need any help

Are you using the Serverless framework too? They got a Slack chat.. did you join?

I was, but was also messing around with Zeit Now, as it is a tad simpler. Haven’t decided where I’ll land, though.

I have my marketing site / frontend all on Next.js and Zeit Now (www.metricsjar.com)
I redirect all traffic from naked domain metricsjar.com to https://www.metricsjar.com via ALB on AWS
And then all API/backend stuff via Serverless framework on AWS (api.metricsjar.com)

I am not a good writer, but here goes my first blog post! With this post, I wanted to set the tone of how I am building this project differently from all my other attempts.
I am programming most of the time, but content marketing is so important. I really want to make writing a regular habit!
Along with the new blog post, I also updated the landing page based on some comments from other IHers. I love this community!

Lol OMG you are right 😂

Also you have over sized images on your homepage. It takes time to load. You may use service like https://tinypng.com/ and it will transform them from 600kB to 120kB with no quality losing.

When running my previous app development startup, this is a product I wanted myself, so I set out to build it.
It's a dashboard that combines all your key SaaS metrics in one place.
I've just finished a landing page for it today! If it's something you need, please sign up to the email list on the landing page for early access.
I'm looking for founders of early stage SaaS companies as beta testers.

Looks great! Do you have a timeline for when you are planning to launch?
Dude, KudosBot looks so good! Well done.
Thanks :), still waiting for the first paying customer
What tech did you use?
I actually built it as a practice site to learn go, but then eventually decided to follow through with it and release it as a public product.
Backend is go + firestore db
Frontend is nextjs and tailwind css
Thanks man 🙏. In December, I’m launching a basic version that only have a few features.
January onwards I have a lot more time to spend on it so there will be another launch at the end of that month.
