MiDrive Transfer
Send large files up to 10GB to anyone for free
Few days ago, we received our first payment for one of our new features. It was a huge milestone for us. The feeling of having someone pay for your service is truly amazing. While we are still bathing in the euphoria of that milestone, we got another alert notification just few hours ago!
A user paid for our Google Export Feature again. This is particularly interesting because we currently just have 2 features which are:
- The ability to extend the expiry of your file by 30 more days
- Export an uploaded file to your personal Google Drive.
As we realise the Google Drive Export Feature is something quite valuable to our users, other export features (Dropbox, box, pcloud etc) are coming onboard definitely.
I truly appreciate this amazing community for the encouragement, advice and help so far. This is closer to our current milestone of $10.
It's been almost 4 months since we launched MiDrive Transfer (https://transfer.midrive.io) and we have kept building it! We added a few new features including the ability to be able to export your files to Google drive and also the ability to be extend a file expiry date by 30 more days. We have also made the transfer link url shorter.
Just last night, we had a customer pay for the Google export feature! It's just $0.99 but it feels so good to see that someone find the feature valuable. First dollar made! Next milestone is $10. We keep moving.

It will be a month since we re-launched MiDrive Transfer on the 12th of January and our numbers looks quite good so far. Over 1.3TB of files have been downloaded so far from 600 transfers. These files have been downloaded 4,400 times as at this morning.
Most of our users have consistently been from India still. We are having users from Brazil, Philippines, USA, Canada and UAE following respectively.
We hope to hit 5000 transfers by the end of the month. Fingers crossed

Just over 2 weeks after relaunching MiDrive Transfer, we have had over 2500 page views, about 350 people have sent files worth over 500GB so far! Also, 80% of our users have come from India alone. Other users are from USA, Canada and UK. We are excited our product is useful and we hope alot more people will see the value of what we have built.

When we initially launched few weeks ago, we missed alot of important details and we almost died on arrival! Then, when we sat down to correct the error, we found out there were many more bugs to kill. After over 5 weeks of sleepless nights and weekend hacking, we are now very confident of our product being rock solid!

And after making sure all boxes are ticked, MiDrive Transfer is now live! We wouldn't say we are going head-on with the other popular file transfer platforms today, we believe we just created a better product!. One that the rest of us can conveniently use.

Together with some few friends, we decided to look at the features of all other major file transfer platforms and decide on a better and more considerate features for MiDrive Transfer. 2 key similar features of other platforms on the free plan are
1 Download link expiry date is 1 week
2. Maximum of 5G file size
We concluded MiDrive Transfer features would be more generous.
1 Download link expiry date is 1 month
2 Maximum of 10G file size
We immediately started working and gave ourselves 3 weeks to build out a product with not just better features but one that even the least techy person like my grandfather can use to send his grandson some of his pictures in the army😊

I am an independent filmmaker and one of my films had gotten into a film festival and the festival needed me to send a downloadable copy of my film. There was just a little problem. Even though my film file size was around 2G, internet is slow in this part of my world. Of Course I had no choice but I was wrong if this was my only problem. I immediately decided to use WeTransfer for obvious reasons. I uploaded my film ( if the film size was more than 2G, that would have been another problem because it meant I would have to upgrade to a paid plan to send my film), got the download link and emailed it to the festival.
9 days later, the festival reached out and said I have to resend the film as my download link had expired! The truth is that this is the 4th time this particular thing has happened to me and I just wondered what it would cost the known file transfer platforms to give a little more latitude on the basic subscriber. I decided to build a better alternative. And so the idea for MiDrive Transfer was born.
