I love the design, very creative. But I did not understand what the tool does, or what value it provides?

  2. 0

    Love the page transitions.

Im not much of a designer, but after few mins on your site, i wasn't sure exactly what service is provided, i know it is ad or design related. Their was a bit too much text to follow, the but sites beauty kept me captivated.

Ad ideas and insights, but still not clear as to what you do. Perhaps not my field, I am sure if i stuck around longer i would have figured it out.

Best of luck to you always.

February 27, 2020 We started an acceleration program!

We are building a niche product for creative teams, and we haven't applied for any acceleration programs. But two different accelerators contacted us in December and invited to apply.

We got accepted to next media accelerator in Hamburg, Germany and started our program in January. They are focused on media and advertising products, so I think we are a good match!

I believe that it is a great opportunity for us to improve our product and reach some enterprise customers.

Congratulations on being accepted to the accelerator program.

We participated in Start-up Chile in 2017 and wrote a blog post about it - https://helpstay.com/journal/company-chose-accelerator-program/

For us, it was a great experience and a great opportunity to spend 6 months in another country building our business. My only advice is to make sure that you stay focused on your building your business - trust your gut - don't feel pressured to do meetings/events(distractions) or meet people/mentors that cannot help your business.

Hey Shay, thank you for sharing this!

February 8, 2020 Redesigned our website with a weird look & feel

We decided to stand out from any of our competitors not only with the Moderne's business model but with every other aspect of our work. Including the design, of course!

Here it is https://moderne.st

We are building a product for creative people, including art-directors and copywriters from large advertising agencies, so we need to deliver something very creative! What do you think?

Nice! For some reason it reminds me of the old Dropbox.design website, though they've since changed it from how I remember.

Designing your website to be unique is highly underrated as a branding tactic, especially if you have a sea of similar-looking competitors. For example, I made IH dark blue for literally no other reason than that every other blog was white, so I wanted people who came to IH twice to remember, "Hey I've been here before."

exactly what I did. Other delivery cookie companies have a stereotypical "mom feel" (not hating on moms) with lots of pink, cartoon spatulas, etc.

      1. 1

It feels a bit like your selling your aesthetic and brand identity more than the actual productβ€”all your homepage tells me about your cookies are they're warm and "the best".

        1. 1

          they're warm and "the best"

          damn right

I don't need to say much else. Word of mouth has been like wild fire.

          1. 1

What's the word of mouth? "These cookies are so warm"? Or is it something more specific and unique? If it's the latter, find ways to incorporate it into your marketing communication to not only increase the word of mouth today, but to prevent your growth stagnating in the future.

      2. 1

I really like the styling of your website, a two quick nits: 1. the lines in the background behind the box with the semi transparent background make it harder to read, consider increasing the opacity of the background and in the future try the browser accessibility tools for contrast, 2. The animated banner at the top would expand enough on my phone to move the word to a new line, which looked kind of weird

    2. 1

Hey Courtland, wow, thanks for the feedback!!

  2. 5

It's a beautiful job Mila, and I'm going to showcase it to https://saaslandingpage.com/ πŸ‘

    1. 2

Wow, that would be great! Thank you so much!

  3. 4

You have done a wonderful job. I hope you move the gorilla on the above-the-fold area to the right maybe ~100px though. It's too close to the text.

Now some criticism: your copy text is very weak, so hopefully you have plans to update that. I would suggest adding copy that explains actual things you do, rather than saying fluff like "encourage creativity". If you really are encouraging creativity, give an example of how, and even a statistic of a way you have tested your impact in that area.

On your pricing page you bring up "machine learning" and my eyes rolled out of skull haha. If it's true and you really are using machine learning I would suggest explaining better what you are doing in plain english. On the other hand if you are doing some sort of algorithm or automation tool and it's not really ML just be honest. A lot of people see the term machine learning and automatically translate that to "bullshit" so it's best to be clear.

Lastly, I am actually interested in subscribing to your startup tier to get some illustrations and design advice for my own project. I don't really understand what you are selling though. Are you selling advice? Consulting? Pre-made assets? I leave the site not understanding what "creative insights and ideas" are.

    1. 2

      Exactly my feeling.

I absolutely loved the look and feel of the site. But I tried to understand what the actual service is and couldn't get a clear idea. Maybe presenting an example use-case/scenario can be helpful.

But again, great work on the visual side of things!

      1. 2

It's defiantly a memorable site. I've had to revisit it two or three times just because I got to thinking about how unique that central american styling she's got going on is. That speaks super well to the project considering design is what is being sold. I hope Mila submits it to awwwards because I think it will do very well there, and that's been a good way to get a few thousand "starter" hits for me in the past. It only cost like $30 to submit as well. Plus the viewerbase of awwwards is probably her target market, and it's a nice backlink for a design niche.

        1. 1

Yes! I think submitting to Awwwards is a great idea! πŸ™‚

    2. 1

I agree with all of this.

To expand on your points on messaging and communication, the illustrations can be considered imaginative and creative, but in terms of marketing, it's a "weird look & feel" seemingly for no other reason than to be weird.

Essentially it's nonsense and demonstrating the antithesis of what it should be showing, which is clear communication of ideas.

      1. 1

Not sure I agree with that take. In marketing being different for the sake of it is quite important. You need to be different because #1 no one will notice you if you look like everything else and #2 it proves you are capable of designing and not just copying, which for her business is probably the most important aspect.

I know just by seeing her designs I was sold on her, despite the copy being bad, because she "showed" what she could do rather than just state she can do it.

        1. 1

Design isn't about how something looks. It's how it works.

Similarly, difference isn't about looking different in superficial ways, but actually being both genuinely unique and valuable.

i.e. The difference one should demonstrate via marketing should be reflective of the core uniqueness of the business/product on offer, rather than the whims of the designer.

I would never hire this designer based on this site, because I'd fear telling her, "I looking for designs that communicate X" and receiving illustrations like a chimp and blue lip fingers that communicate nothing, let alone support the aforementioned message.

  4. 2

    Very modern!

  5. 2

That looks awesome! It's a fresh design.

  6. 2

    The artwork is fantastic 😍

  7. 2

These thoughts are coming from the perspective of a UX designer so bare with me. I know a lot of users are offering words of praise, and rightly so. You did a fantastic job with this page, there's no question about that.

    1. Branding-wise, you nailed it. The illustrations are extremely well done and in a sense make the site what it is, even though they look so abstract they mean nothing to me. It just works.

    2. I love the typography one one hand (I can tell you drew some inspiration from platforms like Dropbox), but on another hand, I find it more of a chore to read. Maybe it's just me.

    3. Though I mentioned the illustrations are amazing, I feel you draw far more attention to them than necessary. As I scanned your site, my eyes almost couldn't be drawn off of them, which prevents me from consuming what it is you're actually selling. The typography also contributes to this, which makes it even worse. Perhaps consider sizing down the illustrations to draw more attention to the content on the site. After all, that is the thing that will convert.

Overall, I really what you created here. This is a beautiful website. My concerns are more related to conversion than how pretty it is. But take it or leave it.

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. 2

    absolutely brilliant artworks!

  9. 2

This is beautiful i think - congrats!

  10. 2

Wow, looks sick! Makes me wish I could draw like this on my own!

  11. 2

This design has a unique point of view, which makes it memorable. Nicely done!

  12. 2

Often these pages are designed well but unremarkable, this one is unique, very creative, I love it!

  13. 2

I think the style and feel is wonderful. Well done.

  14. 2

I think it stands out, and in a good way! I'm no color expert so I can't comment on the color choices or anything like that though

  15. 2

Love it! So cool :-) But from a pure UX standpoint maybe a bit too many colors :-)

  16. 2

    Looks awesome! πŸ‘

  17. 2

    I like it very much!
It has a nice balance of something different and similar at the same time, so I feel good there and know where to look and how to navigate.

Would love to read about the story behind Moderne, but unfortunately, I don't know Latin ;)
    https://moderne.st/our-story

    1. 1

Haha thanks! We are still working on the story :-)

  18. 1

Hard to understand your value proposition. Message needs to be simpler.

  19. 1

Love it, very good illustrations, not sure about the beige background and font going with this bgColor but I love how different it is as you said. Well made!

  20. 1

Pretty good, I think standing out is the way to go. Might want to work on the responsiveness on mobile to resize some elements :)

  21. 1

Awesome artwork! However on medium sized (not full screen) Google chrome windows, the Gorilla art does overflow against the "Unleash the full potential of your creative team".

    Besides that, it looks great!

  22. 1

I wouldn't call it weird. I think it looks great. Though it's a bit difficult to discern what the product is.

  23. 1

Looks great! Actually the typography and color palette reminds me of https://www.dropbox.com ... I think Dropbox also used to have some whimsical art but their homepage now seems to prefer photography. https://todoist.com also has some fun art so you're not alone in this design choice.

    1. 1

this was my thought immediately. https://dropbox.design/

  24. 1

Looks good, but on mobile the site name on the left and hamburger menu on the right blend in with the white places and disappear then reappear. Maybe you could use the logo in the footer with those colors for the text and menu so they dont blend in.

    1. 1

Thanks, this is a feature, not a bug :-)

      1. 0

You could put some background color on the header when you scroll :)

  25. 0

Reminds me of the MailChimp redesign. Looks great πŸ‘ love the artwork you did.

  26. 0

Did not surprise me as I expected when reading your post. You have some nice illustration that stand out a bit. But as a general feeling, I did not think it looks weird.
