April 22, 2026 How I Built Morse Code Reader

I built a simple Morse code tool… and it turned into something bigger

A few months ago, I started working on a small side project: a clean, fast Morse code translator. Nothing fancy. Just something that worked well, didn’t track users, and felt good to use.

That project is now live as morsecodereader.com.

Here’s what I focused on from day one:

• Speed over features
Most tools I found were cluttered or slow. I kept mine lightweight so it loads instantly and works without friction.

• Actually useful features
Not just text → Morse. I added audio playback, a visual signal (dots/dashes animation), and support for multiple scripts like Arabic and Cyrillic. These weren’t “nice to have” — they solve real gaps I noticed.

• Privacy by default
No tracking, no accounts, no nonsense. You land, you use it, you leave. That was important to me.

• SEO as a growth engine
Instead of chasing social traffic, I leaned into programmatic SEO. I started building dedicated pages for individual letters, phrases, and learning content. It’s early, but I’m already seeing traction.

A few things that surprised me:

  1. People actually care about learning Morse code
I thought this would be a niche utility. Turns out, there’s a mix of hobbyists, students, and even people using it for creative projects.

  2. Simple tools can still win
You don’t need a complex SaaS idea. If you do one thing well, there’s space.

  3. Distribution matters more than building
The product itself didn’t take that long. Getting people to find it is the real game.

What I’m working on next:

• AI-assisted learning (giving feedback on Morse input)
• Practice tools for beginners
• Expanding SEO pages in a structured way
• Possibly a freemium layer for advanced features

I’m still early in the journey, but it’s been a solid reminder: small, focused tools + consistent distribution can compound over time.
