A journey to phone nostalgia

June 9, 2020 Mowned revamped inside-out

I've decided to change the overall layout of the site and to revisit each section of the site.

Started with multiple parts and ended with a complete overhaul. From basic components such as forms, dialogs, inputs.. to landing page. I've tried to focus for a better and cleaner look.

September 28, 2019 Switched to Framer Motion for animations

I've finally switched from CSS animations to Framer Motion - a great library for React webapps.

It took me some time (about 10 days, but most part time) and I've managed to work on 74 project files for this :D

September 15, 2019 Posted on Hacker News

.. and was a total failure.

  • no upvotes
  • 1 comment (positive)
  • 13 hits via web, a few more from hacker news mobile apps

2 factors that maybe contributed to this:

  • the day I've posted - Sunday
  • the project niche - not everyone is really into mobiles/smartphone passion.

Maybe I will delete this post after a while.

Thanks but I've expected a bit more than this :D.

      No expectation, no disappointment

September 10, 2019 Mowned Time Explorer

A new section is brought to life - Time Explorer, users can browse thru years and see top mobile devices, popular brands and quick facts.

The quick facts list is still work in progress - i want all important things mobile to be covered here.

All stats / tops are based on users cellphones.

July 25, 2019 Launched on Product Hunt

Even if the product itself didn't went too good in terms of rankings (I have no network built), the product was featured in the daily digest.

Received about 1300 visits and about 100 new registered users, mostly due being included in daily digest.

Great to see hobby websites being created, not only the "next big unicorn" ! Keep up the good work !

Celebrate the wins, regardless of how small. Glass half full!

Yes, I was happy that I've got selected in daily digest! That's a win for me.

And i am aware that this niche is small.

April 12, 2019 15.000 Signups

It's been a long long time, years, but Mowned hit signup number 15.000!

Most of the signups are from word-to-word (for example, John shares his timeline on facebook, Mack and Anna like that and they start creating an account) and from forum signatures.

February 23, 2019 Mowned "Bluegancy"

After about 2 years of pause, I've decided that it's time to invest more time in the project, so I came up with a new skin and multiple improvements.

I've prepared a simple change log section including copies of old versions, so if a user want to see how Mowned was looking before, they can do that, thanks to the React SPA :)

March 28, 2017 Relaunched Mowned

It was time the site needed a major redesign.

I've started learning React and decided to remake the site: a SPA powered by React and Redux and write a simple REST API.

It took me several weeks to get all up and running.

In this process I've learned lots of new things regarding frontend web development. It was a game changer for me.

November 2, 2012 Mowned was born

It took me about 9 days to code the basic and get the site up and running. I've made a simple (and ugly) design.

At that moment, the main focus of the site was the tool that generate a jpeg that contains all the phones added by the user.

The backend is powered by PHP.

October 2012 I had an idea

I've been active on forums and observed that people liked to put history of owned devices in their signature..

... so I was thinking that i can build a site where users can put their own phones then generate a jpeg that can be used as signature in forums.
