Muse Portal

My company recently went through a massive restructure — laid off 50% of lead-level devs. The company is profitable. They just used "AI" as the excuse.

I was lucky to survive. But I don't think anyone is truly safe in the next 2 years — developer or not. So I decided to stop waiting and find out exactly what AI and I could build together.

My background: Studied design at university in Hong Kong. Self-taught developer — no courses, no bootcamps. Started with Flash, moved to HTML5, React, and now leading a mobile team in the UK. Zero formal CS training.

What I built in 2 months:

Muse Portal — an entertainment aggregation app covering Games, Shows, and Luxury content across 3 languages and 20 countries.

Based on my experience, this would normally require 10 people working simultaneously for at least 3 months. Without AI.

Key features:

• AI-automated article pipeline (3 languages)

• In-app purchases with tier system

• Deep link sharing + web support

• Push notifications

• Bookmark + vote system

• No login required — open and consume instantly

Tech stack:

• Mobile: React Native

• Web: Next.js + Vercel

• CMS + Middleware: Strapi

• Database: PostgreSQL (Supabase)

• AI: Claude + Gemini (vibe coding) + N8N (automation)

Why build something that "isn't revolutionary"?

Honestly? It isn't. No groundbreaking idea. No magic moment. But I had real targets:

• Test how far AI can take a solo developer in 2 months

• Learn things my day job never lets me touch

• Build the app I actually wanted — no login walls, straight to content, never more than 3 screens deep

• Find out if one person with AI can genuinely replace a team

The honest answer: closer than I expected.

The real reason I started:

Endless pointless meetings. Politics over product. Months of work for a few buttons. Watching talented people get cut while mediocre processes survived.

Building Muse Portal wasn't just a side project. It was the only place I felt like I was actually making something.
