Progress update - Reddit landing page review

A couple of things that jumped out at me:

  • You should take some product photos with a plain background, the wood doesn't fit the style of the site, and one of them is on someone's hand (??). Get something like this they are not expensive.

  • Your customer reviews are obviously fake. At least make some 4 stars. People are getting extremely desensitised to 5 star reviews.

A few quick observations:

  • The image quality isn't great - can you improve the lighting on the items?

  • Give the Buy now button a color - a orange/yellow is more attractive.

  • The icons below the buy now - dull them down a bit to a mid-grey. They draw the focus from the button.

  • Have the star ratings in line with the other cards at the bottom of each div.

  • Increase the vertical spacing of the What's inside? section. Increase the images to 40% width. Change the button colour again.

  • Instead of the buy now button taking you to the top, repeat the product section at the bottom.

Not much of a mystery, is it? Nor is it a "landing page". It just screams PRODUCTS at me, then shows me 3 similar pictures of what's exactly inside the "mystery" box. Which seems more like a product page than a mystery box sale?

Am I the mystery customer, or is this to send randomly to somebody else?

You really should start with an explanation of your Mystery Box concept before jumping right into a list of products.

I want to say "I bought this from this really cool person who lives in this or that place and who does this or that." People like to help out people, so make it seem more personal maybe. There is a lot of options for jewellery so you can stand out by having a story that adds extra value to your product. Also I think get a light box to use to take photos with. Just a few of my thoughts.

I've written a few web apps, so I think I've got some good advice for you:

  • The most important point is that I wouldn't have had any idea what this is (maybe a fake storefront site?) if I hadn't read your reddit post. Add a description under or above "Products".

  • Consider making the landing page the purchase page for the product, or at least get rid of the three cards for the same product at different quantities. It just makes it confusing. Replace the three cards with a better explanation like my first point.

Smaller stuff:

  • Make the headings / subheadings smaller on mobile.

  • Add more color, especially to the Buy Now button.

  • Use a light box for your pictures, or (from personal experience) a $1 poster board and a cool-toned light bulb works great.

A lot of great points have been raised about the website design, maybe I'll just add a few more things:

  • As someone who is familiar with jewelry and has made my own jewelry out of cheaper materials, it's a little hard to see why some of your products cost so much. You could help customers better understand the value of the jewelry by kicking off the landing page with a little story, or brand vision, or something about why your materials are special.

  • Overall, you can make the site feel more luxe by using smaller font sizes, more white space, and replacing hard borders with drop shadows.

  • If you have a decent camera, try getting some macro/close shots of the beads so that it looks really pretty in the sunlight or something

Generally you want to set it up with this in mind:

1: Explain your concept through a catching video or image with a heading and small text paragraph 2: Go into your USP, this should be reinforced with photos. Great photos = sell (I read that something around 86% of converions are due to website photos) 3: Use a gallary with some products, best sellers, seasonal promotions etc 4: Explain benefits that you might have like free shipping, money back guarantees, easy return policy etc 5: Customer testimonies, shouldn’t be 100% 5 stars but more like 90% to attain credibility

After reviewing the feedback I've created a prioritised list of the things I need to do for the next experiment.

  1. Take better photos. Alot of people suggested that I get a light box and take better quality photos with a lighter background, the wood does not work.

  2. Increase trust. A few people commented that the reviews were obviously fake, or that the landing page was for a fake shop or product. To highlight the authentic reviews I need to remove the 5 stars, and remove the word "delightful" that was used in 3 of the reviews. I admit I reworded the IRL comments on the jewellery slightly for the site.

  3. The landing page is more of a "Product" page and having 3 different products with very little differences does not work. Each product is just an increase in quantity with the guarantee that each piece of jewellery will be different, as opposed to getting three similar pieces if buying 1 box three times. One product with a clear story of why this mystery jewellery box exists would make the product offering more clear.

  4. Color. The "Buy now" buttons are dark, similar to the "Free delivery" and "Secure payment" icons below it. Greying out the additional icon and information, and giving the "Buy now" button some color would be more appealing.

  5. Cost. Its not clear why the mystery box costs so much, providing more information about materials and that they are handmade should communicate the cost to customers.
