MythosQuest

Turn mythological/ancient sites into interactive exploration

February 4, 2026 I’m building a travel app that maps mythological stories to real-world locations

I’ve always been interested in mythology and ancient history, especially the way so many myths, figures, and traditions are tied to specific places that still exist today.

What stood out to me as I kept reading was not a lack of information — it’s actually been known and studied for a long time — but how fragmented it is. Stories, sources, and interpretations are spread across ancient texts, academic work, guidebooks, and articles. Even when you know a myth is connected to a place, it’s often surprisingly hard to locate where that connection actually is.

That’s what led me to start building MythosQuest.

The core of the app is a map that brings mythological stories and locations together in one place. Instead of searching across multiple sources, users can see where myths are traditionally situated, navigate to those locations, and explore the stories and references associated with them.

The current version focuses on a simple loop:

  • a map showing real-world locations tied to ancient myths

  • short mythology-based quizzes linked to each location

  • XP earned by learning and by physically visiting places

  • locations marked as completed as part of a personal exploration log

There are no large narrative quests yet — I’m starting with mapping, discovery, and progression to validate whether people find value in this way of exploring mythology through place.

The app is currently in closed testing and waiting on Google Play approval. I’m sharing this here to get feedback on the concept and core loop, not to claim anything definitive.

Things I’m curious about:

  • Does mapping mythological stories to specific locations feel useful or limiting?

  • When traveling, how do you usually find places connected to stories or history you care about?

  • Would you rather have very precise locations with fewer stories, or broader areas with more interpretation?

If you’ve worked on travel, education, or location-based products before, I’d really appreciate your perspective.

About

I’ve always been curious about history and mythology, especially the way stories we treat as “myths” are often tied to real places, real landscapes, and long-standing traditions, i needed an app that has them all.
