Take control of your Slack notifications

May 2020 Launched on BetaList

Having got a landing page published, I submitted the site to Betalist to see if anyone would be interested in giving me their email address.

Only 20 email addresses or so but enough for me to switch back and start defining and building the minimum feature list.

March 30, 2020 Started to execute on an idea

2020 was going to be the year I really tried to build and ship one of my many ideas.

Snoozebot (now known as naptime) was the idea that had the most potential and it was a real problem that I faced, setting my Do Not Disturb (DnD) for Slack automatically.

Back in 2017, I wanted to set my DnD for my work slack every Thursday while I attended a leadership course.

Since then I still have Thursday's off and I am a member of even more Slack workspaces as well as Discord, 365 Teams, emails, FB messenger, Whatsapp... the list goes on.

A notification can interrupt you at any point on any device and the current landscape means configuring this for each account on each device manually. This is a heavy investment of time and immediately becomes out of date the moment your situation changes.

naptime aims to be a central point of control, firstly by using your calendar as a source of what is important to you, whether that is taking some time off work or doing some uninterrupted deep work. Secondly, by going straight to the source wherever possible, this means chatting directly with the API of these services.

As I say to my 2-year-old, "It is time for a nap" which the response is often "no" or an outburst, but it still happens every day on schedule... it is time we tell that to our communication channels the same thing.

About

naptime originally existed as a lambda function to mute my work notifications every Thursday, when I had a day off. I have revisited it with the hopes to provide an offering to help with focus and deep work
