Growing up, I always felt that learning could be more than just textbooks and rote memorization. I believed it could be an adventure, filled with creativity, exploration, and a bit of magic. Fast forward to today, and I’ve turned that belief into a reality with Narrative Nooks—a platform designed to make learning fun and engaging for kids.

So, why did I create Narrative Nooks?

It all started with a simple question: What if learning could be as exciting as discovering a new world in your favorite book? I wanted to build a place where kids could immerse themselves in interactive stories, tackle challenging subjects, and feel empowered as they conquer their homework. I saw a need for a tool that could seamlessly blend education with entertainment, and that’s exactly what Narrative Nooks does.

With features like 'Discover and Learn,' where children can dive into interactive lessons crafted by ChatGPT, and the 'Personal Tutor,' which helps kids with their homework by guiding them step-by-step, Narrative Nooks is all about turning education into an enjoyable experience.

What drives me?

It’s the belief that every child deserves the chance to learn in a way that resonates with them. I’ve poured my passion for technology and storytelling into this platform, and I’m thrilled to see how it’s already starting to make a difference. Whether it’s helping a child grasp a tough math concept or sparking a love for reading, Narrative Nooks exists to make learning something kids look forward to, not dread.

As someone passionate about building scalable, efficient, and innovative applications, I put a lot of thought into selecting the tools and technologies that would bring this vision to life.

Here’s a peek into the stack that’s making it all happen:

Frontend:

Next.js: The framework of choice for our React-based frontend. It’s perfect for handling server-side rendering, static site generation, and all the performance optimizations needed to create a smooth user experience.
React: The go-to library for building interactive UIs. With React, we’ve crafted a responsive and intuitive interface that kids love to explore.
Tailwind CSS: For rapid styling and a clean, consistent design, Tailwind has been a game-changer. It allows us to build beautiful interfaces without the overhead of custom CSS.
Backend:

Node.js: The heart of our backend, providing a robust environment for building scalable server-side applications.
Express: The minimalistic and flexible framework that powers our API, ensuring fast and reliable communication between the frontend and backend.
Prisma: Our ORM of choice for working with the database, making it simple to manage complex data relationships while maintaining type safety.
Database:

MySQL (hosted on PlanetScale): A tried-and-true relational database that handles our data needs, from user information to lesson content and more. It provides the reliability and scalability we need as Narrative Nooks grows.
Authentication & Payments:

Clerk: For managing user authentication, ensuring secure and smooth logins and sign-ups across the platform.
Stripe: Our trusted partner for handling payments, making it easy for parents and educators to subscribe to Narrative Nooks.
Deployment & Infrastructure:

Vercel: For seamless deployment and hosting, ensuring our site is fast, secure, and always up-to-date with the latest changes.
AWS S3: Storing images, videos, and other assets securely, with the ability to scale as our content library expands.
PlanetScale: A serverless database platform for MySQL that allows us to handle growth effortlessly, leveraging branching and other features to manage schema changes.
Other Tools:

CRISP: For customer support, providing a direct line for our users to get help whenever they need it.
Why this stack?

When building Narrative Nooks, I knew the tech stack had to be both powerful and flexible, allowing for rapid iteration and scalability. Each tool was carefully chosen to meet these goals, ensuring that we can deliver a top-notch experience for our users while remaining agile enough to adapt to new challenges.
