First Revenue

I saw few people had clicked the Amazon affiliate links on the tools page.

One of them completed a purchase and I made $0.60! This is the first revenue for Project Hatch! Great start to the week.

Thank you Lewis. I hope SiteCarePlan is going well, look forward to your next update!

Haha always good to celebrate the tiny wins. Good job man! Waiting til the day I can go from $0 to $0.60 as well.

    Amazing! Congratulations!

Cool, I also know there are projects who make a major part of their revenue with affiliate links.
Are you going to focus on the affiliate as a source of monetization, since it's already showing results, or do you have other ideas?

    1. 3

For now it seems like a good route for starting to unintrusively generate a small amount of revenue vs. things like banner ads which heavily impact UX.

Monetising the site is not a priority right now though. Really trying to focus on interview quality, interesting people and strong content distribution - areas I think that are improving slowly. Linkedin is proving a great source for finding some great people.

In the future I may monetise in other ways but will probably just use affiliate links for the foreseeable future.

Really nice approach and I hope it grows for you

      Thanks Rosie!

Been enjoying the community building emails you're sending. Love the idea of creating one in the future.

      1. 1

Thanks. The more I focus in on the community world, the more I realise that there is so much more to learn. I have plans to start a proper website around it...somehow (!)

        1. 1

It does seem like there is an opportunity there, there are lots of communities but no strong resources on how to create them that I know of.

Hmm :/ I don't mean to sh** on your achievement but a couple of your case studies (like Nike and Fortnite) look like they're ripped straight from @harrydry's case studies on Marketing Examples.

    1. 2

Yeah fair comment. Those two are using similar ideas but Fortnite's marketing strategy and Nike's early growth have long been covered in similar ways so it seemed fine to add to that.

      e.g. https://medium.com/@omrockstars/fortnite-is-upon-us-the-strategy-behind-the-epic-games-creation-taking-over-the-gaming-world-d9f3c9ce988c

I tried to pursue increasingly unique ideas (see 'Time vs Money vs Status' and the 'Plato Allegory of the Cave ft. Blockbuster' articles) but found that the reach i was getting was low and they took a crazy amount of time to write.

Came to the conclusion i cant get any scale from that type of content. Definitely not trying to tread on any toes and those 2 articles have received less than 100 hits combined.

Doubling down on content that is performing well at the moment e.g.

Just trying to test absolutely everything to see what works!

Hi Nathan. I'm all for stealing. Steal an idea and you make it better. There's how life works. But there is a difference between stealing and copying.

And your Nike article is a straight up copy of mine.

        • The title's was the same (Before I changed mine)
        • The introduction is the exactly the same
        • The "Employee Number One" section is a straight copy
        • Johnson's Mailing List is a straight copy
        • The What did Johnson do section is a straight copy
        • You've used the exact same figures I've used in my article (such as the 50,000 shoe sales or the 3,250 in the first 10 months ). These figures aren't online. I estimated them myself after extrapolating from the book.

Not annoyed or anything. It's life. I'm actually a fan of your website. Perhaps less of a fan now. To use the excuse that, "not many people read them so it's ok" is also not cool.

        1. 3

Fair, I accept I was too close to your article (I did get the inspiration to try and write my own take after I saw yours) and have taken it down.

Big fan of what you're up to, keep it up!

          1. 2

            Thanks Nathan. Much appreciated.

Good luck with the next case studies. Look forward to checking them out. I should also add, congrats on your first bit of revenue!

      2. 1

Appreciate the reply and for resolving this in a friendly way. Good luck with the original content. I think your angle on those is unique and you could end up with a hit at some point. Keep it up!
