NearBeach
Open source project management
Site - https://nearbeach.org
Requirements;
- Site to be easily updated
- Site to be extremely fast and secure
- Site to have a JavaScript Framework for sign up form
Technology Stack
- Ruby on rails
- ReactJS
- MySQL
- Apache2 with Passenger
We are happy with the turn out, there are still a few features that need to be rolled out. For example the sign up form will need to be completed in the next few days. Watch this space
A lot of hard work, and lost hours of sleep and I have finally gotten NearBeach back to an MVP product. From here I am focusing on two things;
- Rolling releases
- Bug fixing
I have pruned NearBeach's functionality back to just the following
- Organisation/Customers
- Requirements
- Projects/Tasks
- Request for Changes
The flow of this is;
- You get customers
- You obtain their requirements for the project
- You split those requirements into projects/tasks that evolve as the project does
- You deploy the project
There were components of NearBeach which I was sad to see go -> however they are not gone forever. There are ideas of expanding NearBeach with more products.

I needed to validate what I was doing was going to be worth it in the long run. I needed feedback from potential users - I needed to show the world the changes I had implemented. Thus I started to stream.
This was the first wonderful step I have taken to slowly build up a community around NearBeach. The feedback and support from the community has been wonderful.

I was getting prepared to release NearBeach, however I was not 100% happy with it. There was something nagging me. So I went out of my way and decided to get some honest feedback from potential users -> it was very honest feedback.
I knew I could not release NearBeach in this stage, it had become bloated with different conflicting ideas. It had become a - sure that sounds like a good idea, I should implement it.
I sat down and thought very hard - I knew I needed to prune the hell out of it's concept and give it a more of a focus point.

After several months learning Django, I had finally decided to upload my small little web application - NearBeach. Little did I know that I would be learning so much more over the next few years.
My hope for NearBeach? To supply a helpful tool to the open source community.
