Neighbookz
Connect with your local community for your next book
This story started out one day when I was walking around and found a cardboard full of books to donate in my neighbourhood. I thought "Those books will potentially go to waste if no one is taking them. Those books could be valuable to someone not passing along this house in the same neighbourhood. Why should we wait for getting rid of books to share them? Could it become a way for like-minded locals to connect together?". Then, I came back home and booked the domain neighbookz.com.
Neighbookz has been published a few weeks ago on Android & iOS for UK residents.
I decided to start small by posting flyers in letter boxes of flats at the same floor in my building. After that time of keeping it secret and finally making it public to strangers, I went for a walk and was euphoric about it thinking "I am sure when I will be back home. At least, one person will have subscribed." I came back home, checked and no one. "Ok, maybe tomorrow" I checked and no one. Then I thought "I will post flyers in the 19 floors of the whole building, at lease one would be good" and after a few days nothing.
After this small failure, do I think my idea is still good? Yes
Was the message not attractive enough? Surely
Is the audience living in my building? Probably not
Where is my audience living then?
Who likes to read?
Who likes savings?
Where is my audience going day by day?
How can I can connect with the targeted audience?
Could I have get the same results just with a landing page and flyers: Yes
Funnily enough, some would say this is a bad sign to continue and that's understandable but I still want to give this project some visibility and exposure.
Below the following steps:
- Prepare my sale pitch for hand-to-hand distribution
- Find places in London where the targeted audience is more likely to live
- Give away my 100 flyers left around those living area
- Rethink the message
- Print new batch and go back for hand-to-hand distribution to one of those places
I will let you know soon the outcome of this.
