NHS Insights
Helping people easily understand, manage, and verify NHS
I’ve been working on a small but meaningful project called NHS Insights, and I’d love to share it with the community.
💡 The Problem
A surprising number of people in the UK don’t know where to find their NHS number, why it matters, or how to retrieve it if they’ve lost it.
Even more surprising: most “solutions” online are scattered, outdated, or filled with confusing guidance.
Official NHS pages do have the information — but for many users (especially newcomers, students, or people under stress), the process feels overwhelming.
I kept noticing the same types of questions across forums, Facebook groups, and help communities:
“How do I find my NHS number?”
“Do I need it for my appointment?”
“I’m new to the UK — what even is an NHS number?”
There wasn’t one simple, user-friendly place that explained everything in clear language.
So I made one.
🔧 My Solution — NHS Insights
NHS Insights is a straightforward, beginner-friendly website that helps people understand and manage their NHS number.
What it offers:
Clear instructions on how to find your NHS number
Explanations about what the NHS number is used for
Guidance for newcomers to the UK
FAQs, step-by-step help, and useful references
Blog posts breaking down common healthcare questions
It’s intentionally simple. No clutter. Just answers.
🛠️ Why I Built It
This project started as a small idea: “Can I make this easier for people?”
We all know how stressful healthcare admin can be, especially when dealing with appointments, GP registrations, or immigration paperwork. I wanted to create something that reduces that stress — even a little bit.
Building the site also helped me learn more about:
structuring clear content
SEO for problem-based queries
designing for accessibility
validating small niche ideas with real users
It’s been a surprisingly rewarding journey for such a compact project.
📈 Current Status
The site is live and steadily growing. I’m now focusing on:
improving SEO
adding more educational posts
making guides even simpler
building trust through clarity
Traffic is starting to come in organically, which is exciting for something this niche.
🎯 My Goal
To create the best simple resource for NHS number information online — something helpful, reliable, and easy to understand, especially for those who feel lost or confused.
🧩 I’d Love Your Feedback
Since Indie Hackers is full of people who care about good UX, content clarity, and problem solving, I’d love to hear:
Does the concept feel useful?
What features would you add next?
How would you grow it further?
