Nifty Chess
An app that lets you save unique chess games as collectables
On Friday we hosted a small chess tournament with another community to do some gorilla marketing and get the word out about Nifty Chess.
- Stream: 30 viewers.
- signups: 35 players
- $300 in prizes, $45 weekend revenue
- IM Rosen + 25 others joined discord. It really cool that someone I was hoping we could eventually reach one day found our discord on his own. I think that's a great sign that we reached some good people publicizing our mini event.
Next: add more features that make it more fun, engage more with the small community we are building around the product.
Patrick and I took half week off work to join the ETH Denver hackathon for a few days. The goal was to build a Dapp (decentralized app) which was easy to use, has cheap transaction fees, and could be an example of something that people would join the Ethereum ecosystem to use. With those goals, it had to be something really fun and interesting to look at.
So we created NiftyChess.com, a dapp which lets people trade and collect unique games of chess on the xDai L2 blockchain. The transaction cost of minting a new game as an NFT (non-fungible token) is a fraction of a cent. And users can migrate their tokens to mainnet when ever they want.
We won second place at the hackathon, and I have never had a weekend project get so much hype on twitter or immediate interest, so I decided that I will keep building this and make it so much fun that it attracts a lot of new people.

I love playing chess. I love digital collectables. Let's make something cool an unique, and onboard lots of online chess players into crypto.
