Nosh

Fast, accurate calorie tracking

March 29, 2026 I built a calorie tracker that lets you just type what you ate

Hey IH! I'm Matt, solo founder of Nosh. It's an iOS calorie tracking app where you type "turkey sandwich and a latte" and get a calorie estimate back in seconds. No barcode scanning, no searching databases, no weighing food.

The core insight: calorie tracking apps have a retention problem because logging is tedious. MyFitnessPal has millions of users but most quit within a week. I bet that if you make the entry fast enough (under 5 seconds), people actually stick with it.

How it works: You type what you ate in plain language. Claude Haiku returns a calorie estimate with a one-sentence explanation. You confirm or tweak the number. Done.

Where I'm at: Live on the App Store, ~32 paying customers, $3.99/mo or $39.99/yr. Currently focused on improving my App Store listing conversion rate before scaling paid acquisition (Apple Search Ads, Reddit Ads).

What's next: Apple Health integration, meal favorites, and getting enough reviews to launch on Product Hunt.

Happy to answer questions about building with AI, solo iOS development, or calorie tracking as a category.

About

Every calorie tracker makes you search databases or scan barcodes. I just wanted to type "turkey sandwich and a latte" and get an answer in seconds. Nosh is what happens when you remove all the friction.
