NoSuggest

YouTube without the algorithm. Watch what you came for.

June 4, 2026 I built a free app to watch YouTube without the algorithm — here's why and how

I kept opening YouTube with one video in mind and closing it an hour later having watched none of it.

That's not a willpower problem. That's the algorithm doing exactly what it was designed to do — maximise watch time, not serve the viewer.

So I built NoSuggest.

It's a free PWA that removes YouTube's recommendation algorithm entirely. You add the channels you follow. That's all you see. No suggested videos, no autoplay, no Shorts spiral, no sidebar, no notifications.

The thing I'm most proud of: it works on mobile. Browser extensions can't do that. That's where most doom scrolling happens and where every other distraction tool fails.

It also has a kids mode — parents add approved channels and lock with a PIN.

A few things about how it's built that this community might appreciate:

The frontend is a single HTML file. No framework, no build step. A Cloudflare Worker handles API proxying. Everything user-facing stays in localStorage and never leaves the device. No account, no backend database, no data collected.

I am a Senior Engineer by day at QUT in Brisbane. I built this in my spare time because I genuinely needed it.

It's completely free. Always will be.

Happy to answer any questions — would love honest feedback from this community.
