January 31, 2020 Completed everything except hosting

I have now completed most of it after solving a lot of errors. I am not hosting today because I would only get 11 months of AWS instead of 12 if I do tomorrow and I am bored as well. I will end this tomorrow and start working on something new.

  1. Create a template ✔
  2. Setup database ✔
  3. Integrate it with Django ✔
  4. Create automated pages ✔
    4.1 Scrap Amazon ✔
4.2 Algorithm to identify the simplified three products ✔
  5. Host it on cloud
  6. Blog about it
  7. Get Amazon affiliate key - Would happen when there are three sales from my website
  8. Integrate it with Amazon affiliate

It's two weeks now since I started but I have done a lot of work even apart from this. I have been productive but I should be even more productive.

January 28, 2020 Detour

An urgent work came up and I had to take a detour. It could potentially earn me $4000 per month with a small piece of work. So, I focused on it and I actually learned a lot. Now, I have started to work on this from yesterday again.

The code for scraping Amazon was acting bad beause I hadn't written code to handle errors. I did that now and now it is scraping all of Amazon's categories and major products while I am writing this.

I will complete this project today come what may.

January 24, 2020 Completed code for scraping Amazon

I have completed the code to extract 20 products from all the deepest categories. It is taking a lot of time to run. So, I will go home and run it on my laptop while I sleep.

Tomorrow, I will write the filtering algorithm which I have already thought of and then, I will compile the complete code.

I will complete 6 tomorrow. Then, 2 and 7.

If I do it by tomorrow, I will have completed this in exactly a week.

If I earn $25,000 per month from this, that would value me at ~$400 per hour assuming a 9-hour workday.

  1. Create a template ✔
  2. Setup database
  3. Integrate it with Django ✔
  4. Get Amazon affiliate key
  5. Integrate it with Amazon affiliate - Would happen later
  6. Create automated pages
    6.1 Scrap Amazon ✔
6.2 Algorithm to identify the simplified three products
  7. Host it on cloud
  8. Blog about it

January 24, 2020 Wrote code to scrap Amazon

I wrote a code yesterday that extracts all super-categories, categories, and sub-categories of Amazon. I wrote another code that extracts products from one page of Amazon. Combining these two, I can extract the first page of each category and sub-category.

I will combine these two and then simulate click for more pages and hence, will extract atleast 100 from each category. For more popular ones, I will extract 1000.

Then, I will write an algorithm to filter these products into three simplified categories the views for which are already written.

So today, I will complete the code, then database setup and host on the server. I will try to complete it today.

January 23, 2020 Integrated frontend and Django backend

Now, I have created a system where Django populates the page by taking values from the backend. It wasn't difficult, everything was in the Django tutorial and I did a bit of Google search.

Now, I will create a scraper which scraps products from Amazon. And then algorithm which filters those products to display the three simple options that I want.

I am slow. I need to be fast. I will complete 2 and 6 today.

  1. Create a template ✔
  2. Setup database
  3. Integrate it with Django ✔
  4. Get Amazon affiliate key
  5. Integrate it with Amazon affiliate
  6. Create automated pages
    6.1 Scrap Amazon
6.2 Algorithm to identify the simplified three products
  7. Host it on cloud
  8. Blog about it

January 20, 2020 Created the frontend template

I started yesterday with the thought of finishing it in one day. However, I wasted a lot of time just thinking shit, watching YouTube videos etc.

Then, in the evening, I looked at various templates and decided that I need something simpler and templates would always be complicated. Moreover, I would have difficulty changing it everytime I make a new change. So, I decided to use a front-end designer tool. I found carrd.co. It has a interface and I was able to create a good looking page. But then, I realized that they let you download it for $50 per month which is too much because I don't intend to use that functionality. So, I just hosted it on their site and downloaded html and css. I just need to move ahead. I will come back to this later and modify.

So,

  1. Create a template ✔
  2. Setup database
  3. Integrate it with Django
  4. Get Amazon affiliate key
  5. Integrate it with Amazon affiliate
  6. Create automated pages
  7. Host it on cloud
  8. Blog about it

January 18, 2020 Decided to learn to code and do it

I had the idea in mind and I was waiting for a long time to do this. I realized that I have spent more time thinking about it than I would have in developing it. Hence, I completed Django tutorial yesterday and from today, I will start developing the website.

These are the major steps which I can foresee:

  1. Create a template
  2. Setup database
  3. Integrate it with Django
  4. Get Amazon affiliate key
  5. Integrate it with Amazon affiliate
  6. Create automated pages
  7. Host it on cloud
  8. Blog about it
